About me
Hello and welcome. I'm Karen, a qualified counsellor/ psychotherapist offering in-person and online therapy, working with adults and young people aged 15 years and over. I'm down to earth and provide a calm and warm approach to therapy so if this is your first experience of counselling, you really have nothing to fear. I offer weekend, early and late sessions for those who struggle to make daytime sessions, so hopefully something that works for everyone.
If you've never had counselling before, it's possible you're finding the thought a little daunting, I know I did, but there's no need to be worried.
For many of us, life can often be challenging, throwing curve balls when we least expect it and at that time we just need a bit of support. We seek counselling for many different reasons; perhaps you're feeling sad or anxious, or seeking to make changes in your life, or perhaps it's simply needing a space to talk. Coming to counselling allows you that time and space, allowing you to explore your thoughts and feelings in depth. Talking to friends and family can be beneficial, however, the counselling relationship will add another dimension as there's no bias, no judgement and is completely confidential.
Together, our aim is to build a trusting, honest relationship where you feel comfortable and safe enough to explore where these feelings are coming from, and to help you improve. The therapeutic relationship is a unique one, and finding the right therapist for you is key. Therefore, I offer a 15-minute online, introductory session, where we can both explore whether we are a good fit. Sessions can be short or long-term, whatever you feel you need, and you can, of course, stop at any time.
I am an integrative counsellor, which means that I can draw on a number of different theories as we work through your challenges. I start from a person-centred core, which means really getting what you're saying, displaying empathy and care and not holding any judgement. Other theories I might draw on are Psychodynamic, Transactional Analysis and CBT, allowing us to work in both your past and present. It's my belief that you are the expert on you, nobody else sees the world the way you do - I am simply here to help guide you to finding your own solutions.
I am a registered member of the BACP (MBACP) which means I am committed to working ethically with you and put your wellbeing at the centre of our work together.
My face to face work is primarily in the Leighton Buzzard area.

Member organisations
BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
