About me

Perhaps you are navigating a difficult life transition or feeling the silent strain of anxiety and self-doubt. You might feel a gap between the person you present to the world and how you feel inside.

My approach is integrated; while my foundation is rooted in person-centred values, offering you deep empathy and total acceptance. Whether we are exploring the roots of your current patterns or finding ways to cope with difficult emotions, my goal is to help you understand your experiences and rediscover your internal compass by building on your emotional resilience.

Together, we will create a space where you can be truly heard. My aim is to empower you to live more authentically, through a greater sense of self-worth and the confidence to trust your own path forward.

As a Person-centred/integrated counsellor, my values lie in providing a warm, non-judgmental space where you can explore your thoughts, feelings and experiences at your own pace, all within the space of the therapeutic alliance. Therapy isn’t a magic wand; it’s a collaborative process where we build a trusting relationship together, one in which I hope you will feel truly heard. An important ingredient of your therapy journey is to discover valuable personal insights & perspective, which can be deeply transformative for your personal healing journey to begin.

I believe that every individual has the capacity for growth, healing and self-understanding when offered genuine empathy, acceptance, and respect.

About me & my therapy practice

Person-centred therapy is a non-directive talking therapy led by you the client. I always endeavour to provide a safe, supportive, empathic space in which you can safely explore what it is that has brought you to seek support.

We will work with your “here & now” emotions and feelings & any past experiences to help you gain clarity and enable positive change to take place. My hope in our work together is to understand your experiences with curiosity and enable you to feel empowered to make the changes you wish.

Your own unique life experience has made you the individual you are. I help foster a deeper personal understanding & self-belief, in order for you to heal & implement the changes you feel will enrich your life.

The integrated aspect is a more directional approach, which I can bring to our work, individually tailoring our sessions. If it’s helpful to you, I may introduce psychoeducation, grounding techniques, breath work and journalling to aid your awareness & help you implement change. These come from various modalities, but with person-centred principles at the heart of our work together. I am currently developing & aligning my therapeutic work with trauma-informed practices to establish safety, connection & understanding for clients living with the legacy of trauma & anxiety.

Training, qualifications & experience

I hold a Level 4 Diploma in Counselling skills and Theory.

I am a member of the British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (MBACP), my practice is guided by their ethical framework.

My current professional development is in understanding & working with Complex Trauma- working towards a Certification Training Level 1 & 2 (CCTP/CCTP-II) with Janina Fisher (Online Course)

As well as working in private practice, I am a volunteer counsellor for a registered charity in the Preston area. The charity was recently awarded the Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service, equivalent to an MBE for individuals, in recognition of their professional level of service.

I also trained as a volunteer with the Samaritans in 2017, a deeply rich & fulfilling experience that ultimately lead me to train as a counsellor.

I offer long-term and short-term counselling, and work with a broad range of issues including depression, anxiety, relationship problems, low self- esteem; bereavement; anger & life transitions.

My counselling approach can benefit people who seek to gain more self-confidence, a stronger sense of identity & authenticity for those wishing to improve their interpersonal relationships, to feel more able to trust in making their own decisions.

I offer a no obligation, free 20-minute online consultation in which you can discuss what has brought you to seek counselling. You can either arrange an appointment then, or take time to consider your options.

Counselling sessions are 50 mins on a weekly basis, initially.

Face-to-face sessions are available Monday - Saturday, at Synergy Health, Kendal. LA7 9DD or Skywalk House, Kirkby Stephen, Cumbria CA17 4SY.

Online sessions are available Monday to Saturday.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
