About me
Hi, I'm Karen, a person-centred humanistic counsellor. Thank you for looking at my page!
I offer warmth and empathy in a safe, confidential, non-judgemental space for you to tell me your story. The aim is for us to work together to explore your emotions, your patterns, and your experiences that have formed you, to help you understand yourself more and enable you to work through the tougher moments. I will be listening to you with understanding and acceptance, but I will also gently challenge you to look deeper into yourself to encourage the growth of your self-understanding and acceptance.
I have experience working with and am fully qualified to counsel for feelings surrounding life's complexities: Anxiety, depression, relationship issues, grief and loss, low self-esteem. I also have further experience and training in counselling around pregnancy for men and women: Pre or post-natal, infertility, baby loss, birth trauma, or Hyperemesis Gravidarum. Feelings from any of these presenting issues can cause confusion, upset, anger and stress among many others. It can be hard to speak to those around you for fear of not being understood or being judged or making others feel bad. That's why I offer a safe space to talk about the things you normally can't express, so you can be yourself, let it out and start to find some acceptance or understanding.
I offer face to face counselling in Barnstaple, North Devon, or online counselling for anyone who prefers that or lives further afield. I am fully insured and a registered member of the BACP.
If you would like to discuss the possibility of having sessions together then please email me and we can arrange a Free initial telephone call to see if we gel. Each client and counsellor relationship is different, and taking the first steps to counselling can be daunting, so try to take time to pick someone who you feel comfortable with, whether that's me or another counsellor.

Member organisations

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
Accredited register membership

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
