About me

Hi, I'm Karan. As a counsellor, I will provide you with a welcoming, safe, and confidential environment where you can process thoughts, explore feelings, and take positive steps towards change.

My aim is to build a trusting and therapeutic relationship with you, where you feel heard, supported, and empowered to find your voice. The approach I use is person-centred, a talking therapy where we will address your traumas, anxieties, and fears from your frame of reference, and as my client, you will be at the centre of every session.

Having experienced the great highs and terrible lows that life can often throw at us, I have at times, needed the support of a counsellor, and although I was very nervous at the time, it was the best decision I could have made. I didn’t know what to expect but due to the connection we built; I was able to process my issues and understand why I felt the way I did.

Whether you're seeking clarity, self-improvement, or emotional well-being, I will see and hear you for the unique individual that you are and, although I can't promise to 'fix' you, I will work with you with unconditional positive regard, listen to your story with empathy, compassion, and integrity, and always bring sincerity to every session to help you find your true reflection.

Counselling can be emotionally demanding work and there may be times when it feels challenging, however, when you feel ready and find support, personal growth can be achieved, having a positive and lasting impact on your life.

As our sessions are based around your needs, it is your choice where our sessions will take place. You can visit me in Atherstone for a face-to-face session, or remotely via telephone or online.

We all need support at times, and I'd be honoured to be a part of your journey.

Training, qualifications & experience

Through Brown Swan Counselling (my private practice), I am able to offer sessions of talking therapy that will help you to understand your true self and work through the issues that are causing, or have caused, unrest, anxiety, and/or ill mental health.

I also work with a local charity to provide counselling for male, female, and non-binary survivors of domestic abuse. I am trained in, but not limited to, ill mental health conditions, domestic abuse, sexual violence, and mental health in the workplace.

As a registered member of the British Association of Counselling and Psychology (BACP), I work in accordance with their ethical framework to ensure I provide a safe, quality service which meets individual needs.

My training and personal experiences have shown me the power of genuine, unconditional support; and to provide this for others in need is a true privilege.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
