About me

Hello, I am Kanan, an integrative counsellor based in South Northamptonshire, close to the borders of Oxfordshire and Buckinghamshire.

I have the pleasure of working with clients of all ages and from all walks of life. As well as my private practice I work one day a week with a mental health charity that supports 11 to 25 year olds with any challenges that they are facing.

As reaching out for help can be daunting, it's important that you feel comfortable with the counsellor that you have chosen. I offer a safe, confidential and non judgemental space where you are treated with empathy and respect. This is important so that you are able to explore any difficult feelings, emotions and experiences that you have / or are encountering.

How I work

I am a humanistic counsellor which means that I listen to you without any judgement. You bring to our sessions only what you wish to bring. You are in control of what you wish to talk about. The sessions are led by you at a pace that is acceptable to you. Having that space to talk about the areas of your life that you wish to gain a better understanding of, can allow you to move on from challenges that you are experiencing

Being integrative means that I draw upon my knowledge gained from three different counselling theories allowing the flexibility to offer a blended way of working which is tailored to the uniqueness of the individual that you are.

This is also the same for the number of sessions that you have, there is no right or wrong.

I am also a master practitioner in Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP), Hypnotherapy and Time Line Therapy (TLT). This means that I have a bank of additional resources at my disposal to utilise in our therapy sessions, should you wish to do so.

Initial consultation

Making the decision to look for a therapist is a big step and can be daunting. This is why I offer an initial free 30 minute consultation. This can be done either by phone or via zoom. This allows you to ask any questions that you may have. It gives me an opportunity to find out about you and what you would like to achieve from counselling.  Also it allows space for you to have an understanding of how I work and it  also gives you a chance to work out whether you would feel comfortable working with me.

Counselling can be offered online, via telephone as well as face to face.

Training, qualifications & experience

I trained for four years qualifying as an Integrative Therapeutic Counsellor. This culminated in a diploma from the Counselling and Psychotherapy Central Awarding Body (CPCAB).

I am a member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP).

I am a Master Neuro Linguistic Practitioner (NLP), Hypnotherapist and Time Line Therapist (TLT) and a professional member of ANLP International CIC.

I work with individuals ranging from young people to adults. I have experience of working with clients presenting with depression, anxiety, panic attacks, low self confidence, low mood and feeling of sadness, abuse and family issues. These are just a handful of examples.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
