About me

I am a warm person offering a space to unpack life’s challenges and troubles.

I work on an open-ended basis or for a fixed period of time. I offer face-to-face sessions in Headingley, Leeds and online, with appointments generally being weekly or fortnightly.

Having someone to trust, listen without judgement, and offer perspective can make a big difference, especially at times when it is most needed.

At the core of my work is the creation of a space where clients can feel safe, respected fully as a unique individual, valued for their own particular life experiences and feelings. I have a ‘relational’ approach where the most important thing is the therapeutic relationship between counsellor and client.

As an integrative therapist I have skills that can help with an array of human challenges such as; anxiety, ADHD, depression, trauma, grief, guilt, shame, loss, betrayal, poor self image, negative and repetitive thoughts or generally feeling overwhelmed.

I have also taken particular interest in developing effective tools and strategies for dealing with stress in the workplace and from the pressures associated with being a student.

I also specialise in working with clients who have had a difficult relationship with their patents and have a wider interest in supporting men and women with their mental health.

Training, qualifications & experience

I am a fully trained/qualified trauma informed therapeutic counsellor.

I am I.F.S (Internal Family Systems) informed. I.F.S is a modern approach to healing trauma which helps to integrate various 'parts' of ourselves, that often feel at odds with each other. The I.F.S approach seeks to integrate stuck emotions and defensive thought patterns that try to protect but can often keep a person locked in a cycle of self-defeating behaviour. Relationships, work and self-esteem are areas commonly affected. By adopting a more curious and compassionate attitude to oneself using the I.F.S approach people often experience healing and self empowerment, quickly.

As well as providing individual therapy, I have over ten years  experience working in addiction treatment services; guiding people seeking recovery from substance misuse/alcoholism, trauma and mental health issues.

In my role helping people recover from addictions I have undertaken training in C.B.T (cognitive behavioural therapy) and Mindfulness Based Self Compassion; which help to deal effectively with a range of issues such as overcoming impulsive behaviours and addressing irrational fears.

I have an ongoing and dedicated interest in the science and practice of meditation. In other areas of my work I facilitate meditation sessions to an international community of individuals with a desire to explore consciousness, where we regularly realize peace, lightness and calm within ourselves.

So, as an optional extra at the end of each session, I offer of holistic wellbeing techniques based in mindfulness/meditation/breathwork and energy rebalancing.

Once taught, these simple tools can be practiced alone. But again, they are optional.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited register membership

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
