About me

Hi I'm Julie. Thank you for visiting my profile and taking the time to find out a little bit more about me and the service I offer. I hope you find what you are looking for. I understand that finding the right therapist can feel daunting, and it is important that you find someone who is a good fit for you. My intention is to create a calm and nurturing space where you will be met with warmth, patience and respect. Here I will listen to what is important to you, focus on your needs, values and strengths, and empower you to heal and grow towards a greater sense of emotional wellbeing, at your own pace.

I can't tell you exactly what therapy will be like as I don't have a 'one size fits all approach'. We are all very unique, and your experience of therapy should be too. We will tailor your therapy together to meet your individual needs and help you to lead a more balanced and meaningful life.

How therapy can help you.

I believe we all face challenges and difficulties in life, and equally, we all deserve to receive support and understanding to help us make sense of how these are affecting us. We may not fully understand why we feel weighed down by the demands that life can bring. This can leave us feeling emotional, lacking in motivation and enthusiasm for doing the things we used to enjoy, and a sense of discontentment with life in general. Maybe we feel ashamed for feeling this way and are too afraid to speak up. In therapy, we can gently begin to unpack these feelings together, which will enable you to gain a clearer perspective to understand what is bothering you. This will help you to make the positive changes you would like to see in your life, whilst helping you to find your way to rebuilding a sense of balance and fulfilment in your life.

Maybe some of the deeper, painful experiences you have had in life have left you with thoughts of not knowing who you are anymore, and feeling disconnected from yourself and those around you. This can leave us feeling "numb" whilst going through the "motions of life", with little sense of direction and purpose.

What I can offer.

My practice is rooted in Person Centred values by offering empathy, respect and non-judgment. I will work sensitively with you and listen to your story, sharing only what feels right for you. How often have we had the experience of being truly heard and feeling like we mattered? How many times do we put our needs last because we are too busy "spinning all those plates" and meeting the needs of others? Having a space where you can "let go a little" and be met with compassion and understanding and without fear of judgement or criticism, can empower us to make those changes to help our lives feel more balanced.

As well as working with adults I am experienced in working with adolescents, helping them to make sense of their transition from child to adult. Adolescence can be a very confusing and difficult stage to navigate, whether thats exploring their personal identity or how they see themselves within their family, friendship groups and the wider community. Having their own space to talk through their emotions and be able to understand more about themselves help build their confidence and enables them to overcome some of the challenges they face.

As well as talking therapy, I also offer walk and talk therapy which some people find less intimidating than sitting in a counselling room. Sometimes finding the right words to describe our thoughts and feelings can be difficult, so i also offer creative interventions to assist with this.

If you feel like I might be a good fit, I would love to hear from you. I offer a free 20-minute, no obligation getting to know you video call. This will give us both the opportunity to discuss how I can best help you, and if you will feel comfortable working with me.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
