About me
Hello, its good to meet you. I know that starting therapy can feel scary and overwhelming, particularly when you are searching for the right therapist, at a time when you are struggling. I am a registered Cognitive Behavioural Psychotherapist (membership number: 00001009916). I am working part-time in the NHS offering therapy, however I am aware of the long waiting lists and difficulty accessing services, therefore I am offering private therapy and I currently have availability. If you would like to get more information, ask a few questions or have an initial chat about starting therapy, then please feel free to call me or email me. We can have a chat for free and then schedule an initial assessment in person or online. I look forward to hearing from you.
For details regarding the kind of therapy I offer and how I can help you, as well as my qualifications and experience, please do read on.
How I can help you:
I am a qualified Cognitive Behavioural Psychotherapist, which means that I have attended extensive training in Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT) and I am now recognised by the British Association for Behavioural and Cognitive Psychotherapies (BABCP) as an expert in delivering evidence and research based CBT at the highest quality. I have worked full time across various psychological services for the past 8 years, supporting adults, children, adolescents and parents/carers to work through lifes challenges and grow to become the person they want to be. I am now working part-time (Monday-Wednesday) in Children and Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS).
As a CBT Psychotherapist, I can help those suffering with depression, anxiety, OCD, phobias, trauma and PTSD, stress, low self esteem, perfectionism and body image difficulties. Through my training and experience in working within CAMHS diagnostic services, I have extensive experience working with the autistic and neurodivergent population and helping people to understand their neurodivergence and how to manage daily life, particularly when mental health difficulties co-exist.
What will therapy be like:
The first 1-2 sessions will involve an initial assessment, allowing space for us to get to know each other, explore your life experiences and current difficulties and build awareness and understanding of what might be maintaining them. It can be useful to reflect on what has brought you to therapy and what your desired goals/ outcomes are, whether you've tried anything in the past and what has been helpful or unhelpful previously.
After the assessment, together we will create a shared understanding/ story of how your past experiences have affected you and how they led to your current challenges today. This might help you understand why and how you are struggling now. We call this a formulation and it is a key tool in CBT to help us explain your individual difficulties and any possible thinking patterns or behaviours that you have developed to help you cope, but that might in fact be serving a function in keeping your difficulties going.
From here we can tailor the therapy to meet your needs and create a treatment plan to help you develop resilience, coping strategies, tools or techniques, find new ways to manage and thrive in difficult situations and challenge any negative thoughts you have. We may do this through techniques such as reflection and exploration, developing experiments and testing out theories or through behaviour exposure.
Sessions tend to be weekly, structured by developing an agenda at the beginning of the session, and where activities and explorations are targeted towards your goals and reflecting back on our shared formulation. This way we find therapy is most effective and you see the most changes to your overall mental and physical wellbeing.
Every few sessions, we will review how the therapy is going for you, whether you feel listened to and understood and whether you feel we are on track and targeting your needs. In this way, we can change the course of therapy if needed.
I will create a safe and non-judgemental space and help you process difficulties you have experienced, make sense of why and how they are impacting you in your daily life and how you can start to work through these to overcome problems you are facing. Whether you have a specific problem you want to overcome or you need a place to open up and explore difficult thoughts and feelings you are experiencing, I will help you work towards your goals, with compassion, kindness and respect.
I approach therapy in a person-centred way, which means I will be guided by you as to the pace you feel comfortable with and whether you prefer a more gentle, playful or focussed approach to therapy.
Everyone's needs are different and everyone's reason for coming to therapy are individual to them. Therefore we can work together for as long as therapy is helpful and enabling you to reach your goals. I will help you feel empowered to leave therapy with the skills you need.
Please feel free to contact me anytime. I look forward to hearing from you and meeting you.

What is CBT:
This model of therapy is structured and activity based, focussing on identifying and challenging negative or unhelpful thoughts and thinking patterns and behaviours or responses to challenging situations. CBT helps to explore and challenge vicious cycles and experiences of stuckness. The aim is to develop healthier and more balanced ways of thinking and behaving, overall improving emotional wellbeing and building confidence.

- Post Graduate Certificate in Mental Health Practice from University of Sussex
