About me

Hi, I'm Joe.  I'm a counsellor working face-to-face in rooms in central Exeter, walking in nature in and around Exeter, or online or by phone wherever you are.  I am registered with the BACP and fully insured.  Contact me to discuss how we might work together.

I offer a warm, thoughtful and collaborative space where you can talk openly about what feels unsatisfying, difficult, stuck or painful.

I work with clients as individuals because I believe there is no single approach that suits everyone. At the heart of my work is the therapeutic relationship: being alongside you with care, trust, curiosity and respect, and creating a space that feels safe enough for you to explore whatever has brought you to counselling.

Whether you are feeling overwhelmed, anxious, low, disconnected, or facing a period of change, therapy can offer a place to slow down and make sense of your experience. I listen carefully to how you understand yourself, your relationships and your place in the world, and together we can explore what you are experiencing.

My approach is led by you. I believe you already carry important knowledge about what you need, even if it feels hard to access at first. As well as exploring difficulties, I pay attention to the strengths, resources and ways of coping you already have, so that we can build on what is already helping.

Therapy cannot erase the past or remove every difficulty, but it can help you understand yourself more clearly and respond to life with greater flexibility, self-acceptance and confidence.

Our work may help you to:

Understand patterns in thoughts, feelings and relationships
Make sense of anxiety, low mood or feeling stuck
Navigate life transitions and uncertainty
Develop greater self-acceptance and emotional resilience
Feel more connected to yourself and others

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited register membership

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
