About me

I’m a qualified psychodynamic counsellor and Registered Member of the BACP, offering counselling in Witham and Chelmsford, as well as online.

People come to counselling for many different reasons. You may be struggling with anxiety, low mood, difficult relationships, low self-esteem, bereavement or simply feeling that something in your life isn’t quite right. Sometimes there isn’t an obvious reason at all you might just feel stuck, overwhelmed or unsure of what needs to change.

My approach is warm, thoughtful and down-to-earth. I offer a confidential space where you can talk openly, without judgement, and at your own pace. Rather than simply focusing on symptoms, psychodynamic counselling gives us the opportunity to explore how past experiences, relationships and patterns may be influencing how you feel and relate to others today.

I believe counselling works best when you feel comfortable with the person you are talking to. I won’t tell you what to do or expect you to arrive knowing exactly what you want to talk about. We can begin with whatever feels important to you and gradually make sense of things together.

I work with adults experiencing a range of difficulties, including anxiety, stress, low mood, relationship difficulties, loss, low self-esteem and feelings of not being good enough. I also have a particular interest in working with neurodivergent adults and understand that traditional ways of thinking about counselling do not always fit everyone.

I offer face-to-face counselling in Witham and Chelmsford, alongside online counselling for clients further afield. Sessions are open-ended, so there is no fixed number you need to commit to; we can continue for as long as the work feels useful to you.

If you are considering counselling but are unsure whether I might be the right person for you, I offer a free 15-minute telephone or online chat, followed by a free 50-minute initial consultation before counselling begins.

Training, qualifications & experience

I completed my professional counsellor training on a BACP-accredited course and hold a Diploma in Counselling.

My qualifications include:

  • Diploma in Counselling
  • Diploma in Counselling Skills
  • Certificate in Counselling Skills

My training is primarily psychodynamic, with a strong focus on understanding how earlier experiences and relationships can influence the way we feel, think and relate to others in the present.

I am a Registered Member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and work in accordance with the BACP Ethical Framework.

Alongside my formal training, I continue to develop my practice through ongoing professional development, regular clinical supervision and further learning.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Further information

I understand that starting counselling can feel like a big step, particularly if you are unsure what to expect or whether you will feel comfortable with the counsellor you choose.

My aim is to offer a calm, welcoming and straightforward approach. You do not need to prepare anything before a session or know exactly what you want to talk about. We can begin with whatever feels most important to you.

I have a particular interest in working with neurodivergent adults and recognise that counselling does not need to look the same for everyone. Where helpful, I am happy to adapt the way we work so that sessions feel more accessible and comfortable for you.

I offer open-ended counselling, which means there is no fixed number of sessions. We can continue for as long as the work feels helpful, with regular opportunities to think together about how things are going.

Face-to-face sessions are available in Witham and Chelmsford, and I also offer online counselling.

If you are thinking about counselling and would like to get a sense of whether we might work well together, I offer a free 15-minute telephone or online chat, followed by a free 50-minute initial consultation before counselling begins.
