About me

My name is John Ellis, and I am a Professional Accredited Member of the National Counselling and Psychotherapy Society (PNCPS Acc.). This accreditation reflects advanced competence in counselling practice and a strong commitment to providing safe, ethical, and effective therapy.

I understand that reaching out for support can feel difficult, especially when you’re struggling with anxiety, stress, low mood, relationship difficulties, or feeling overwhelmed by life. Many people come to therapy feeling stuck, exhausted, disconnected from themselves, or unsure how to move forward. My role is to offer a calm, supportive, and non-judgemental space where you can begin to make sense of what you’re experiencing and work towards meaningful change.

I believe therapy should never feel like a “one-size-fits-all” process. Every person has their own story, challenges, and goals, which is why I customise my approach to suit you as an individual. I draw from a range of therapeutic approaches, including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), adapting our work together in a way that feels most helpful and effective for you.

Whether you are struggling with anxiety, stress, depression, low self-esteem, loss, relationship difficulties, or simply wanting to better understand yourself, therapy can help you develop healthier coping strategies, improve emotional wellbeing, and gain greater clarity and confidence in your life. Together, we can explore the patterns, thoughts, and experiences that may be holding you back and help you feel more balanced, resilient, and in control.

Alongside managing a busy private practice, I have spent the past ten years volunteering as a counsellor with the national mental health charity Mind. Through my work across both long-term and crisis counselling teams, I have supported clients experiencing a wide range of emotional and psychological challenges, both in person and online. This experience has strengthened my skills in active listening, crisis intervention, and providing personalised support during some of life’s most difficult moments.

Starting therapy can be the first step towards feeling more like yourself again. You do not have to face things alone.

If you would like to ask any questions or find out more about how I work, please feel free to get in touch. I aim to respond to all enquiries within 24 hours. If you do not receive a reply, please check your spam or junk folder, as messages can occasionally be filtered incorrectly.

I look forward to hearing from you and supporting you on your journey forward.

Achievements

I currently co-facilitate the LGBTQIA+ “Queer Space” group at Mind, an informal monthly gathering that provides a safe, welcoming space for people to connect, share experiences, and support one another. The group encourages open conversations around identity, relationships, and everyday challenges affecting wellbeing, helping to build a strong sense of community, understanding, and mutual support within the LGBTQIA+ community.

I also co-facilitated the Men’s Group at Mind, creating a supportive and non-judgemental environment where men could openly discuss personal and professional challenges. Through guided discussions and peer support, participants were encouraged to develop healthier coping strategies, build emotional resilience, strengthen relationships, and work towards more balanced and fulfilling lives. (Completed June 2023).
