About me

Hello, my name is John. I have worked in private practice as a Counsellor and psychotherapist for over fifteen years with individuals and couples ranging from 16 to over 70. In that time, I have worked with a broad spectrum of people from many cultural backgrounds presenting an array of issues.

Over the years I have I have found that the more the client trusts in me the better the result. Therefore, I endeavour to build a strong therapeutic alliance, one where we can be honest with each other, this can take time depending on the client. I believe that the issues we have in life are formed in relationships and that it is only through relationships that they can be resolved.

Unfortunately, I don’t have a magic wand. When you first come along, we will explore your current situation and the feelings you have around it, this will inform us as to why you're here. This may take some time; however, once we've looked at patterns and behaviours and understood their origins, we can talk about options for moving forwards. Then we can work together to find a solution.

I use Transactional analysis in my work where we will look at how we communicate and interpret (analyse) both verbal and non-verbal communication (transactions). How our interpretation of how we were/are treated and spoken to in our lives has led to the difficulties we now face. I am caring, warm hearted and will tell you the truth about what I think might be an issue and how you can take responsibility for your life. I look forward to working with you!

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
