About me

Hello, I’m Jo, a BACP-registered person-centred counsellor, offering counselling for adults and young people, both in-person and online. With over 30 years’ experience supporting adults and young people - including work in NHS mental health services and hospice care - I understand how uncertain and challenging life can feel.

You may be struggling to make sense of your feelings or coping with past or present life events that continue to affect you. I support people navigating anxiety, stress, low mood, grief, trauma, relationship difficulties, and life transitions, offering you a space to talk openly, reflect on your experiences, and gain insight and clarity.

Many people come to counselling to:

• Ease feelings of anxiety, stress, or low mood
• Cope with grief, bereavement, or major life changes
• Understand relationship patterns or communication difficulties
• Build self-confidence or self-acceptance
• Find a greater sense of peace, balance, and clarity

My person-centred approach means the focus is always on you and what matters most to you. I listen without judgement and support you in finding your own way forward, bringing warmth, honesty, and respect for your unique story.

I believe meaningful change isn’t about trying to “fix” ourselves - it comes from approaching ourselves with curiosity and compassion. In therapy, you have the chance to be genuinely heard and understood, and to find the perspective and confidence to move forward in a life that feels true to you.

I offer a free 30-minute introductory session - a relaxed opportunity to meet, ask questions, and see whether counselling feels right for you. You’re very welcome to get in touch - I’d be happy to hear from you.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
