About me

Hi, my name is Joanne. I am a fully qualified person centred counsellor. I am also trained in CBT techniques. I offer a welcoming and safe space for you to share your worries and problems, without any judgement. Person centred therapy puts you at the heart of the therapy. I work with you, to help you explore any issues you may be having and to help you work out a way forward, at a pace that feels right for you. The ways I work, for example, may include strategies to help you build up self worth and resilience and helping you identify what your goals are for the future and helping you work and plan towards these, or it may be helping you explore and process past trauma and helping you work out what the triggers are for you and coping strategies to manage these triggers.

These issues may be anxiety, low self-esteem, depression, divorce, family, relationships, work-related stress, anger management, trauma etc. I work with a wide range of issues and I am very experienced in working with ADHD, autism and neurodivergence and long term health conditions.

I am a registered member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy and a registered member of the British Psychological Society.

I began my training with a Psychology degree at Huddersfield, I then went on to study for a certificate in Counselling Skills and a diploma in Therapeutic Counselling at Wakefield College and then on to further training in CBT techniques. Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited register membership

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
