About me
My name is Jo and I am a BACP accredited psychotherapist (12 years in practice) and supervisor. If you are struggling with anxiety or depression, low self esteem, bereavement, trauma or other issues in life, within relationships or at work I can help you to process and explore your thoughts and feelings. Together we can find and build solutions and coping strategies to improve your life now and in the future. I am able to offer F2F sessions, my practice is Covid 19 secure and I am fully vaccinated.
My approach to therapy is to offer you a safe, genuine and confidential space to explore your difficulties, without judgement.
I can offer short term solution focused therapy (6-8 sessions) and longer term if there are perhaps multiple issues to address. I also use Equine Assisted Therapy with my miniature ponies where appropriate.
I came into counselling following a difficult period in my own life and felt that I wanted to give something back by helping others who may find themselves struggling in life. I have worked with a wide range of issues and across all ages including adults and younger adults.
I am based in Gotham (3 miles from Clifton and East Leake and 20 mins from Nottingham City Centre) and which is easily accessible by either bus or car. I have safe off road parking. (I do offer home visits if you are unable to travel). As well as Face 2 Face sessions I can offer remote telephone and/or video sessions across the UK and Ireland.
As a British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) accredited counsellor I support and adhere to the BACP code of ethics which promotes professional and ethical working. I am covered by indemnity insurance and hold an enhanced criminal records bureau (DBS) check.
You can contact me by phone or email.

BACP Accreditation
Member organisations
school Registered / Accredited
Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.
BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).
Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.
Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.
All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
Accredited register membership
The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
Areas of counselling I deal with
Other areas of counselling I deal with
Other areas I have specific experience of include:
* ante and post natal illness and recovery.
* infertility and IVF processes.
* I have worked in the NHS offering counselling to sufferers of diabetes and heart problems (including cardiac arrest) and have a sound appreciation of the difficulties that these conditions impose.
* I have worked with clients who have vision and or hearing loss
* I can also offer equine assisted therapy. Working in a safe environment with the ponies can help unlock your feelings, develop your sense of self, your ability to be in the moment and to listen to your intuition. This work all takes place on the ground no riding or horsemanship is involved. No prior experience of horses is required. NO RIDING INVOLVED
