About me

My Promise

  • I will always treat you with respect and dignity, everyone deserves this.
  • Whenever you’re ready, I am ready
  • I believe in you
  • We are more than we think we are

IT REALLY IS ALL ABOUT YOU

Am I right for you?

First and for most I am a genuine caring and compassionate human being, I have a passion in helping people and truly believe  that we all need some help at sometime, which I understand is  hard to do for some people.  But I feel this is being brave and courageous and part of self care that we as human beings should all practice in our lives, because at the end of the day we are all amazing in our own right and deserve, happiness, healing, growth, acceptance, what ever it looks like for you.

I am a person-centred counsellor, so it is important that you are heard and understood. Whatever you are facing, you decide what you want to address and bring to our sessions. I will not tell you what to do; you will always lead the session. The space will be private and confidential, and you can decide if you want that to be by telephone, video or face to face, or a mixture of both, what ever you are most comfortable with, this is your journey.

Together, we can work through difficulties so that you can move forward in life, as quickly or as slowly as you want. I will listen without judgment, and you can expect an empathic experience with compassion and sensitivity.

I have over 20 years of experience of substance misuse/addiction,  from lived experience, and working with service users and their families. With different levels of use and different substances, alcohol or drugs.  I understand the pain that substance misuse brings not only to the person in the addiction but also to their families/friends/partners. Substance misuse is never in isolation which means I have also supported people along side this with mental health , from low mood, anxiety, depression, self harm to suicide ideation.  I have supported both men and women who have been affected by domestic violence, which have included, mental, physical and sexual harm. I have also helped people with lack of confidence and self worth and issues such and people who are body conscious and suffer with body dysmorphia. I have also worked with a lot of clients who have suffered loss and worked with them through their bereavement. So I have a vast knowledge of different issues and I am hear to help you with any that you may have.

The best feeling is when a client shows progression, the little light bulb moments, magic moments that make a positive changes in that persons life.  No matter how big or small, small steps make big steps, all you need to do is make time for you and the magic will happen.

Training, qualifications & experience

My Vision

It's simple - to help you overcome and heal. I have been fortunate to work with Linwood detox and Rehabilitation Unit, Aspire Drug and Alcohol Service, and Humankind Drug and Alcohol Service, so I have vast knowledge of addiction, not just the client but also affected family members.  I have volunteered for Beacon for Barnsley support for carers, Umbrella for Mental Health and Barnsley Bereavement services when I was studying for my Counselling qualification.

I currently work full time as a Health at work coach, and I  have  a private counselling practice in the evenings.  So I have many years of experience with working with people on a 121 basis and I have a passion in helping/supporting people when they need it.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited register membership

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.

Wheelchair user access
Wheelchair user access

Wheelchair-accessible premises should have step-free access for wheelchair users and individuals who are unable to climb stairs. If a Counsellor's premises aren't step-free, they may offer alternative services such as telephone/web-based appointments, home visits, or meeting clients in different location, so you can choose the option that suits you best.

You can contact the Counsellor to discuss the options available.

Under the Equality Act 2010 service providers have a duty to make reasonable adjustments to ensure that individuals with disabilities can access their service. You can read more about reasonable adjustments to help you to access services on the CAB website.

If you prefer a face to face appointment in stead of telephone or video, I I can offer a safe, private space in  Barnsley Town Centre, I am on the first floor, there is one flight of stairs, there is a lift available, and wheelchair access if needed.
