About me

Life can leave us with a lot to think about, and having someone safe to talk things through with can be invaluable.

I'm Jo, an Integrative Therapist offering online therapy to adults across the UK. I'd like to welcome you to my private counselling practice, The Unedited Self.

I offer a space where you can be open, curious and honest about what's going on for you, without feeling you have to "act" like you're in therapy. Think of it as a real, authentic conversation between us. I'll hold the therapeutic framework, creating the space for you to slow down, listen to your own thoughts and feelings, and we can explore whatever you need to, at your own pace.

Being an Integrative Therapist means I draw on different therapeutic approaches to suit you and your individual needs. Our sessions are collaborative, and there's no set agenda for how things "should" unfold.

Maybe something has happened that’s turned your world upside down. Or perhaps you just know you’re struggling, feeling stuck, or finding life harder than it used to be - and you’re ready to start making sense of it all.

Or maybe you’re not struggling at all. You’re simply curious about yourself. You want to understand your neurodivergence perhaps, or explore your sexuality, get clearer on what matters to you, or work out what comes next. You don’t have to be in crisis to find therapy useful.

We might explore how your past influences your present, look at patterns that keep repeating in your relationships, or make space for feelings you've spent years pushing aside. Sometimes we'll sit with something difficult; sometimes we'll question the stories you've come to believe about yourself.

There might be moments of insight, uncertainty, frustration, sadness or even laughter. It doesn't have to look or feel a certain way. It's all real, and it's all welcome.

And one more thing....The Unedited Self isn't just a place where you can bring your authentic self. It's about understanding why we edit ourselves in the first place.

Training, qualifications & experience

I hold a Level 4 Diploma in Counselling and have three years of post-qualifying counselling experience. This exists alongside a wider career dedicated to supporting people emotionally through a variety of roles which also include other relevant qualifications such as a BA (Hons) in Social Work and a Diploma in Social Work (DipSW).

My experience includes counselling neurodivergent adults through an autism charity and supporting them following a recent diagnosis. I have worked with pregnant and new mothers, parents and carers of neurodivergent children and families affected by a child’s offending behaviour.

In my counselling practice, I work with adults experiencing anxiety, low mood, divorce, separation,  family difficulties and also relationship issues - such as exploring attachment, communication difficulties and identifying recurring patterns.

I also have a passion for working with women to explore their sexuality, reconnect with their femininity and challenge the expectations that may have shaped their sense of self, within a sex-positive, non-judgemental space.

My professional and personal experience of parenting and home educating neurodivergent children also informs my understanding of the challenges families can face and the support they can benefit from.

I bring warmth, curiosity and a genuine commitment to understanding each person’s unique experiences, helping them make sense of their past, understand their present and explore what they want from the future.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited register membership

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
