About me

Hi, my name is Jo (she/her). I work with people who are discovering their identity, navigating LGBTQIA+ issues and dealing with lifes transitions such as menopause. I have extensive experience supporting people who want to look at their relationships with family, friends and partners including where there is abusive behaviour. I know these things are often not easy to talk about and we will go at a pace that feels right for you.

You might not be sure about what you want to talk about but want change and to feel more at peace.

I am a working class, cis gendered, menopausal Queer woman. Getting to know these, and many more parts of myself, has been and continues to be a deeply personal journey of unlearning, healing and becoming.  We do not need to identify in the same way for us to work together. Whatever the shape of your story you deserve to have a space where you don’t have to perform, explain or justify and can explore your version of self.

I am based in North London and I work online and face to face Haringey.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.

Additional information

Sessions are 50 minutes and cost between £40 and £65 depending on ability to pay. I believe in improving access to therapy for those groups for whom cost is so often a barrier. Because of this I do not ask for proof of income, and largely clients determine for themselves what they can afford within the suggested range.

I offer a free 20 minute introduction zoom meeting in which we can have a chat, ask me questions and we see if we are a good fit.

Further information

If we choose to work together I will provide a space where you can talk about your experiences if and when you are ready to. I understand the courage it can take to even say the words out loud. I will never push you to share anything before you are ready, instead we will move at a pace that feels right for you.

The way we feel is also impacted by the world we live in, the trauma we see in society and our own experience of discrimination and oppression so I will always provide space to explore this with you.

Whatever you bring I will meet you with warmth, curiosity and care. Therapy can be serious and deep but it can also be human and real with moments of laughter and lightness.
