About me
Hi, my name is Jeremy, thanks for taking a look at my profile. Helping people rediscover the power to make choices is my main counselling focus. I am trained in a variety of therapeutic frameworks but the bedrock of my approach is increasing your awareness of your present experience instead of becoming lost in the past. This is the approach I will take in medium to long term and open ended counselling.
I have specific training in short term therapy, which we can use on specific problems you may have identified for 6-12 sessions.
I am also a semi-professional musician and as such have a particular interest in the mental health concerns which members of this profession/community tend to face.
Please use the headings below if you want to know more about one of these specific areas.
Medium to Long term Counselling
Every moment that arises presents an opportunity to change the journey we are on. Sometimes all we need is to take a proper look at our surroundings to see there are other pathways to follow. Or perhaps we are right where we need to be but are still thinking about where we were 10 years ago.
In our time together, I see my role as walking alongside you on your journey, an extra pair of eyes to spot things you might miss, someone to help shoulder your burdens while you take time to take in the view.
Perhaps it has been a long time since you were touched by the beauty of birdsong or the scent of a spring morning, the feeling of dewy grass between your toes. Let's turn off the sat-nav, wake up and step out of the dream.
Solution Focused Brief Therapy
Perhaps you know very well the issue that is causing you trouble, or the new opportunity that, despite the excitement still causes you to worry old patterns will make you fall short of achieving what you want. If we agree this is the best suited approach then we will focus on discovering where you already have resources and skills that bring success elsewhere in life so that you can apply them to your problems.
Counselling for Musicians
It is often said that music can save lives and I absolutely believe it, sadly the same cannot be said for the music industry. A 2016 study of over 2000 individuals by the charity, Help Musicians found that around 70% suffered heightened anxiety and depression.
I am a musician with over 25 years of experience of performing and recording with all that goes with it. It is clear that as a group, we are in higher than normal levels of risk. While the mental health concerns that we, as musicians tend to face are not unique, the factors that create them are.
As someone with direct experience of this career and lifestyle, I am well equipped to help you with the mental health troubles your career and your identity as a musician might be causing.
Taking The First Step
I understand that contacting a counsellor for the first time can bring about feelings of anxiety. So here is an account of the process to follow.
Send me an email using the link above or send a text message to the number on this page. Include your name, express your interest in starting therapy and let me know when is a good time to contact you. We will then organise a time for an initial meeting either face to face or online where we can establish your goals and you can ask questions about how I would help you achieve them.
After this meeting, you can decide whether or not to proceed with counselling. Its all about giving you the information you need to make a choice.
A Final Word...
I have seen the surprise people I work with give themselves while taking hold of achievements they thought beyond their reach, when thoughts and feelings that held them back for so long seemingly evaporate.
You do have the power to make the difference you want in your life, together, let’s find it.

Member organisations

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
Accredited register membership

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
