About me

Hi there and welcome to Jenny Blain Counselling.

I am a fully qualified, experienced counsellor and clinical supervisor who works from the Lombard House in central Canterbury. I am a registered member of the BACP as well as the NCPS and I abide by their Ethical Frameworks for Good Practise.

I offer counselling for a variety of issues such as low mood, depression, generalised anxiety disorder, bereavement, long term illness, relationship issues, family issues, low self esteem, self-harm, bullying, exam & work stress, addiction, panic attacks and PTSD, just to mention a few.

My counselling practise offers a specialised service for young people and individuals with Autism Spectrum Condition/ ADHD. You can find me on the National Counselling & Psychotherapy Society's CYPT Accredited Register and I have an on-going advanced DBS.

I also offer Couples counselling. I work with issues related to emotional intimacy, jealousy, infidelity, trust, differing parenting styles, differing values and goals, life changes, frequent arguments, gender role conflict, financial issues, communication difficulties, hostility, resentment and withdrawal.

My core counselling training was humanistic with a focus on Person centred counselling. Over the years I have developed a more integrative way of working where the main goal is to tailor my approach to suit my clients and their issues, individual needs and preferences.

I am comfortable working in a person centred way where the sessions are guided mainly by you but I am equally happy to adopt a more directive or solution focussed approach if you feel that would suit you better. I am naturally drawn to humanistic theories such as Transactional Analysis and Gestalt therapy but you will also find me using Cognitive Behavioural therapy, Attachment theory and elements of Psychodynamic theory if I believe that's what's most needed. Regardless of the approach you will always find the therapeutic relationship at the centre of my counselling practise as I believe that's the foundation for all the work we do.

I aim to be a warm, approachable & caring counsellor. I understand that it can be daunting to seek counselling and that the process of finding a counsellor and coming for a first session can be challenging. It's normal to feel apprehensive or nervous and to have a lot of questions. Maybe you're not sure if counselling is for you? It's common to worry that your problems aren't serious enough to seek professional help. If this sounds like you then perhaps booking a free 15 min introductory call would be helpful.

If you would like to book a session please get in touch by email, or by calling and leaving me a msg. The next step would be to find a day and time when we are both free to meet for a first session. During the first meeting we will discuss your reasons for seeking counselling, your expectations and I will answer any questions you may have. This is an opportunity for me to explain how I work and for both of us to see if I am the right counsellor for you. There is no pressure at this point to sign up for a number of sessions. You can book in for the following week or go home and think about it.

If you are a parent looking for counselling for your teenager please get in touch to arrange a phone call before booking in.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
