About me
Hi I'm Jen, a Gestalt-trained counsellor operating in London and Great Dunmow in Essex. I work as a therapist for my local Mind as well as running a private practice. I have a therapy room in Dunmow and also operate out of the Gestalt Centre near Camden/King's Cross, London, and a space in Highbury/Finsbury Park. I also work online, so I can see clients from pretty much everywhere! I offer a free telephone consultation to see if we would like to work together. Please contact me if you have any questions at all - I very much look forward to meeting you!
Training, qualifications & experience
As well as qualifying with a Diploma in Counselling from The Gestalt Centre in London, I have a couple of qualifications from a previous life - a BA (Hons) in Business Studies (Birmingham), and an MA in South-East Asian Studies (SOAS).
I have worked in mental health with my local Mind (Mind in West Essex) for the past nine years and am currently a member of their team of freelance therapists. With Mind, I have undertaken various training courses such as Mental Health First Aid, Suicide Awareness and Understanding Teenagers.
Member organisations

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
Accredited register membership

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.

Further information
As a Gestalt therapist, our sessions will be centred around what is going on for you in the here and now, and how past experiences have influenced your current situation. I specialise in grief therapy, existential/mid-life crises, depression or general malaise, and stress and anxiety. Once we have established a trusted therapeutic relationship, we might try some experimental methods such as visualisations or using 'the empty chair' to further explore what is happening for you. We might utilise additional tools such as my bag of pebbles or some wellbeing cards to aid the therapy. Our focus will always be on enabling awareness and acceptance - an essential precursor to moving forwards with a renewed sense of verve and confidence. Whatever we decide to do, it will be led by you and what you need for your therapy journey.
