About me

Introduction:

I'm Jen Brown - Step-By-Step Counselling & Therapies, a professional Person-Centred and Integrative Counsellor/Psychotherapist, Advanced Clinical Hypnotherapist, EMDR Therapist and Holistic Therapist, holding a Level 5 Diploma in Therapeutic Counselling, Advanced Diploma in Clinical Hypnotherapy, Diploma in NLP and qualifications in CBT, EMDR Therapy, Mindfulness and Holistic Therapies.

I have been a therapist in Bridgnorth, Shropshire since 2009 and have built a thriving private practice with clients often contacting me on recommendation of my services. I have extensive experience working with adults, teenagers, couples and families, am employed part-time as a School Counsellor and offer private counselling, psychotherapy, CBT, bereavement counselling, EMDR therapy, hypnotherapy, mindfulness, meditation and holistic therapies from my confidential therapy rooms just on the outskirts of Bridgnorth, Shropshire.

These ground floor therapy spaces are set in idyllic countryside and offer a peaceful, confidential and safe environment, where reflection, transformation and healing can take place. They are serviced by local bus routes, have ample free parking and are easily accessible from the surrounding areas of Shrewsbury, Telford, Ludlow, Wolverhampton, Dudley, Stourbridge and Kidderminster. If travel, mobility or distance is an issue for you, I can also offer bespoke online therapy via Skype, FaceTime, WhatsApp Video Call, Zoom or Teams and of course via telephone.

I work flexible hours, with both daytime, evening and weekend appointments, work closely with local GP Practices receiving regular referrals and accommodate private healthcare referrals. I also offer bespoke corporate packages to organisations and businesses and provide Supervision to other Counsellors/Therapists and Counselling/Therapy to training student Counsellors.

In addition, I work with Perry & Phillips Funeral Directors, Bridgnorth, to offer a free bereavement support service. Our weekly 'supportive chats' and monthly 'group bereavement counselling sessions' can be of great support at such a difficult time.

Therapies available:

Person-Centred/Integrative Counselling/Psychotherapy/CBT, provides a safe space for you to be understood, respected, and listened to empathically without judgement. A range of theories and modalities such as; Person-Centred/Humanistic Therapy, CBT, EMDR Therapy, Mindfulness, Solution-Focused Therapy, Transactional Analysis, Psychodynamic, meditation/relaxation techniques, may be used to provide the right therapy for you.

Bereavement Counselling, offers a safe place to explore your feelings and thoughts following the loss of a loved one.  Working together, we can explore coping strategies and techniques to help you come to terms with your loss, in time, and find a way forward.  This is a respectful service, taking into consideration the appropriate pace for you. EMDR Therapy and Hypnotherapy are also available, if considered beneficial.

EMDR Therapy facilitates the desensitisation of traumatic memories, cognitive restructuring and significant reduction in symptoms through accessing and re-processing target issues whilst completing sets of bilateral stimulation through rhythmical eye, auditory or kinaesthetic movements.

As an experienced Counsellor, Psychotherapist and Hypnotherapist you can be assured of being guided through the EMDR process at a safe pace for you. Multiple sessions will be required, depending on the trauma issue, to achieve effective results over an appropriate time frame.

Hypnotherapy is an effective form of therapy used to treat conditions, issues or change unhelpful habits. It harnesses the power of suggestion to encourage positive change, whilst the client is in an ‘altered state of awareness and relaxation’. I offer single sessions and also Hypnotherapy Programmes, which are a set number of sessions of Hypnotherapy, Counselling, Psychotherapy and specific strategies and techniques. Programmes include: 'Anxiety and Stress Relief'', Confidence and Self-Esteem Building', 'Sleep Well', 'IBS Relief', 'Beat Your Phobia', 'Alcohol Awareness', ‘Stop Smoking’, ‘Weight-Loss’ and 'Gastric Band Weight-Loss'.

Hypnotherapy mp3 audio recordings are also available to download from my website. These have been specifically created to aid relaxation and sleep, help alleviate anxiety, stress and tension and improve overall well-being. Please see my website for further information.

Mindfulness and Meditation sessions can significantly improve wellbeing, bringing a sense of inner peace, balance and self awareness.  I offer mindfulness meditations and also spirtually guided deep healing meditations, all bespoke and tailored to each indivual every session.  I also offer group meditations, again deeply spiritual and transformative sessions to help you centre, ground and aid your soul journey.

Holistic Therapies - reiki, reiki crystal healing and distant healing are complementary/holistic, energy-based healing therapies which support and encourages natural self-healing abilities; whilst promoting a feeling of deep relaxation, harmony and well-being. These relaxing treatments can be combined with counselling/psychotherapy for a truly holistic approach to improve your well-being. Please see my website www.reiki-roots.co.uk for further information.

Please feel free to contact me via email, text or call me on 07967797786 for an informal chat to discuss any aspects of the therapies I offer.  Should you then decide if therapy with Step-By-Step Counselling & Therapies is right for you we can arrange your initial assessment and therapy session at my private practice, or via Skype, FaceTime, WhatsApp Video Call, Zoom, Teams or telephone. Your enquiry will be treated in the strictest confidence. I sincerely hope I can be part ofyour journey.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
