About me
Do you ever lie awake at night, stuck in a loop of overthinking, getting nowhere except convincing yourself that you are failing at life? Do you find yourself procrastinating everything, avoiding all the things that make you feel scared and overwhelmed, but still end up feeling rubbish anyway? Do you worry that anxiety and low self-esteem are holding you back, keeping you small, stopping you from being the person you really want to be?
I work helping people who feel this way- judging themselves, feeling like nothing they ever do is good enough, comparing themselves to others- and bullying themselves into doing better, and feeling better.
But guess what- bullying yourself never works!I have nearly a decade's worth of experience working with adults and young people who feel scared, overwhelmed and anxious, and have helped them discover that self-compassion and understanding are so more much effective than shame and self-hatred.
Email me to arrange a 20 minute chat- telephone or online- so we can decide together if we're a good fit. I'll ask a few questions, and answer any you may have.
Training, qualifications & experience
I completed my MSc in Counselling and Psychotherapy in 2019. My core training is in something called person centred therapy- a non-directive type of therapy that puts your needs first; you're the 'expert' in you, so you're in charge! I have completed additional training in child and adolescent mental health and compassion-focused therapy, as well as lots of continued professional development on a range of mental health topics, including ADHD and autism.
Alongside my private practice work, I have worked in a variety of settings and I currently run the counselling service at a large sixth form college. So believe me when I say I've seen it all- I'm totally un-shockable! And most importantly, completely non-judgemental.
On a personal note, I have experienced periods of anxiety and depression since I was a teenager; I know how difficult it can be, because I've been there. I know how intimidating reaching out for support can feel, and making you feel comfortable is my top priority.
As a busy working mum, I also know that life can be messy! I can't promise you a perfect, stress free life (sorry). But I can help you navigate the ups and downs, so you feel equipped and empowered to deal with whatever life may throw at you.
Testimonial
"I'm incredibly grateful for the support and guidance I've received from Jen over the years. She always makes me feel heard and understood in a warm, non-judgemental environment. She has helped me work through personal barriers, understand my emotions, and better understand myself."
Member organisations
BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
Accredited register membership
The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
