About me

Hi I'm Jemma, a counsellor based in Blandford Forum. I offer a space where you won’t be judged — just heard, understood, and supported. Many people come to me feeling stuck in anxiety, perfectionism, or relentless self-criticism. It can feel like you’re always bracing yourself, always “on”, and never quite able to exhale.

I’m autistic and ADHD, and this shapes the way I work. It helps me tune into sensory and emotional overwhelm, spot the subtle patterns people often miss, and create a steady, accepting atmosphere for anyone who walks through the door — neurodivergent or not. My aim is simple: to help you start feeling calmer, clearer, and more in control of your life.

Clients often come to me feeling burnt out, fed up, or tangled in old loops that feel impossible to break. Bit by bit, we notice shifts — easier mornings, kinder inner dialogue, decisions that feel less paralysing, and the sense that your needs finally get to matter.

What I can help with

I support adults who feel stuck, overwhelmed, or on edge all the time — whether that shows up as anxiety, perfectionism, low self-worth, or simply not recognising yourself anymore.

I can also help if you’re navigating stress, burnout, life transitions, relationship patterns that keep repeating, or the impact of neurodivergence on daily life.

My approach

I work holistically, paying attention to your thoughts, feelings, body, and lived experience. My approach is integrative, drawing on person-centred, humanistic, and mindfulness-based ways of working.

Our sessions might include practical tools, gentle reflections, creative methods for new perspectives, or simple ways to understand what’s happening in your mind and body. There’s no pressure — we go at a pace that truly feels right for you.

Training, qualifications & experience

I hold a Level 4 Diploma in Therapeutic Counselling (Redlands Counselling & Training), am a registered member of the BACP, and I’m fully insured and committed to ongoing professional development.

Recent CPD areas include:

  • Autism Spectrum Condition & ADHD
  • Unpaid carers
  • Ethical decision-making
  • Ecotherapy
  • Mindfulness
  • Online counselling
  • Eating disorders

My blend of training and lived experience helps me build a space where people feel understood and able to move forward.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited register membership

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.

What to expect

In our sessions, we gently make sense of what’s going on inside your head and what’s shaping the patterns you’re caught in. This might involve practical strategies, creative tools, or straightforward explanations to help things click into place.

Counselling tends to be most effective when it’s consistent, so many people work with me for at least 3–6 months — but we shape this around your needs and your life.

If you're unsure, I offer a free call so you can get a feel for how we might work together.

Outdoor therapy

Alongside in-person and online sessions, I offer outdoor therapy in green spaces. Some people find it easier to open up while walking or sitting outdoors, where movement, fresh air, and the natural world help thoughts untangle. We take it steadily — whether that means a gentle wander or simply sitting together in a peaceful spot.
