About me

I am a Counselling Psychologist (a licensed mental health professional). I understand that reaching out for support can feel like a big step. You may be feeling overwhelmed, emotionally exhausted, stuck in unhelpful patterns, or struggling with anxiety, low mood, trauma, stress, addiction, or relationship difficulties. People also come to therapy for many different reasons, at different stages in life. For some, it is about coping through particularly stressful periods; for others, it is about deeper self-understanding, emotional support, working through trauma, or understanding relationship patterns, or simply having a safe and reliable space that is theirs. There is no "right" way to engage in therapy, and it is okay if your needs shift over time.

My aim is to offer a calm, supportive, and non-judgemental space where you can speak openly and feel genuinely heard. Together, we work to understand what may be contributing to your difficulties, explore patterns that may be keeping you stuck, and help you feel more grounded, supported, and in control again.

Here's how one of my clients put it (verbatim with permission):

"Jeanine actually listens to you and is processing the information given. She engages, asks questions and makes you think about your issues with a different perspective. She makes me feel safe and able to open up to talk about topics I have been repressing for years, even issues in my childhood that I had forgotten about. Her calm and soft-spoken nature make her great for keeping me on topic and focused on the issues at hand when I start to ramble down the thought-train."

Having worked in psychiatric hospitals for most of my career, I have experience supporting people with a wide range of mental health difficulties, from everyday challenges such as low self-esteem, anger management, burnout, loss, redundancy, sleep disturbances, divorce, and relationship problems, to more established conditions including depression, anxiety, PTSD, OCD, bipolar disorder, addiction, EUPD, and psychosis.

I work eclectically, meaning I draw from a range of therapeutic approaches depending on your individual needs, rather than following a rigid, one-size-fits-all model. My approach goes beyond talking therapy and may include exploring past experiences and underlying emotional patterns, alongside practical coping strategies, psychoeducational resources, and reflective exercises where helpful.

If you are considering therapy, you are very welcome to get in touch. I would be happy to speak with you and explore whether working together feels like the right fit for your needs.

Training, qualifications & experience

I hold a Master’s degree in Counselling Psychology from South Africa, where I graduated cum laude. My training pathway differs from the traditional UK route, and my qualifications have been assessed as equivalent to UK doctoral-level training, as reflected in my registration with the HCPC. This advanced and internationally recognised training included extensive preparation in a range of evidence-based therapeutic approaches, allowing me to work flexibly and tailor therapy to each person’s unique needs rather than relying on a single model.

I am able to draw on multiple therapeutic modalities to ensure treatment is responsive, personalised, and grounded in best practice.

HCPC
Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC)

The HCPC are an independent, UK-wide health regulator. They set standards of professional training, performance and conduct for 16 professions.

They keep a register of health professionals who meet their standards, and they take action if registered health professionals fall below those standards. They were created by a piece of legislation called the Health Professions Order 2001.
