About me

Talking through concerns or things that make us anxious can help us process them in order to make sense of them and enable us to make better decisions and life choices.  We can’t always control what happens in life or change what has happened to us, but we can, with the right support, learn to cope with our circumstances and live better lives.

We all have different coping strategies and sometimes these can have the opposite effect of supporting us, for example using alcohol, substances, food or exercise to self-medicate.  Instead of looking at how we cope we can look at why we need to cope and what caused that need in the first instance. If we understand the need and identify the feelings associated with the need, we can start to redress the balance in our lives and take more personal control.

Having recently attended the End of Life Doula Foundation course with Living Well, Dying Well I recognise that living (the operative word) with a terminal diagnosis can be isolating and difficult in a society where death and dying can be a subject that people avoid or deny. Having a space to speak about what you are going through, as either the person who is ill, or the person supporting someone who is ill, can provide

I also have experience of working with survivors and perpetrators of domestic abuse so if you are contacting me and do not want me to ring you back, or if there are specific times when it is not safe for me to ring you, please tell me that in your message and indicate some times when you can ring me back – I will endeavour to answer when I am free to.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
