About me
Hi, I’m Janet. I work as a person-centred therapist, combined with CBT and somatic therapy techniques, so I can tailor an approach based on your needs using a combination of emotional, practical and physiological based methods that you can continue to utilise day to day. Starting therapy is a courageous step, and finding the right therapist is just as important as the work itself. My practice is built on creating a space where you can feel safe, heard, and genuinely understood. A space that in it’s very nature is holistic, non-judgemental and confidential.
Training, qualifications & experience
I am a BACP registered therapist, with over 20yrs experience of working in mental health and wellbeing services.
At the heart of my work is a person-centred approach. This means that I see you as the expert of your own life, and together we can explore what feels meaningful, challenging and important to you at your own pace. I believe deeply in the power of empathy, authenticity, and unconditional positive regard. When met with compassion and curiosity rather than pressure or expectation, real change can begin to occur.
Alongside this, I integrate CBT and Somatic therapy techniques to support a more tailored and flexible therapeutic experience. CBT can help us gently examine unhelpful patterns of thinking or behaviour and experiment with new, more supportive ways of approaching difficulties. Somatic awareness, on the other hand, allows us to connect with the wisdom of the body – noticing how stress and emotions, or past experiences might be held physically, and learning ways to release or soothe these sensations. Blending these approaches means that your therapy can evolve organically around your needs, goals, and your readiness to grow. Some sessions may focus on exploring emotions and building a deeper self-understanding. Others might offer practical tools, grounding techniques, or embodied practices to help you feel more regulated and connected. My aim is to walk alongside you as you navigate whatever brings you to therapy – whether that be anxiety, stress, relationship challenges, low mood, life transitions, illness, grief, or simply the desire for greater self-awareness.
If you’re looking for a therapeutic relationship that honours your individuality, holds you in your authenticity and supports your whole being – mind and body, I would very much appreciate the opportunity to work with you.
Member organisations
BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
Accredited register membership
The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
