About me

Life can be really hard at times and can present us with difficult situations and real challenges. Whether it be regarding our past, or upbringing, our relationships past and present, work issues, distressing life events or the pressures of navigating life itself and all that it throws at us, we may find it really beneficial to have someone to share those burdens with.
Sometimes we might hold certain beliefs about ourselves that don’t serve us well, we may feel stuck in life or unsure of how to move forward, this can lead us to feeling low in mood, anxious and at times overwhelmed.
If you think you would benefit from feeling listened to and heard by another,  unconditionally accepted for exactly who you are, understood and not judged, in a safe, confidential and comfortable setting then you may want to try therapeutic counselling.

My name is Janet and I am a qualified Counselling Therapist. I am fully insured and a registered member of the BACP (British Association of Counsellors and Psychotherapists). I have a back ground in holistic therapies and taught ITEC (International Therapy Examination council) therapeutic massage for some years.   I have over 30 years experience in the health and social care sector covering many varied settings and services. This includes drug and alcohol misuse where I worked as a creative recovery lead, mental health team, learning disability, and homelessness services, end of life support and the NHS.  I have experience in working with neurodiversity and hypersensitivity and like to share mindfulness techniques and explore client creativity if this is a client wish.

One can feel very alone in times of stress, anxiety and overwhelm.  Sometimes, talking it out, unpicking some of the tangled threads of life, exploring ourselves with the support of an unbiased other, can help us to gain understanding and acceptance of who we are, and how we wish to move forward in life.

If you think I might be able to help you please feel free to contact me by telephone or email for a free 20 min consultation.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
