About me

Hi, thanks for looking at my profile. I know how difficult it can be trying to choose a counsellor, so I won't bombard you with too much information but will just say some things that I feel might be important to help you with your considerations.

I believe that helpful therapy starts from co-creating and exampling an authentic relationship. I offer a safe, empathic and nurturing space: I will be your companion to sit with those uncomfortable or conflicting thoughts and feelings. Whatever you bring to therapy will be ok.... there's no right way to "do" therapy. We can work together to unravel what bought you to therapy in the first instance, even if that's more of a "not knowing" why you feel like you do. Through our work together, we may find that there are deeper issues to explore that were not recognised initially, or familiar behavioural patterns that haven't served you well in your life and that you might like to change. We can look at all these things and more, working at your pace.

Training, qualifications & experience

I trained in the Person-Centred approach. This values your unique way of being in and experiencing the world. I strongly believe that you have the inner wisdom to know what you need and that therapy is a way of helping you to tap into that wisdom at your own pace.

Prior to my private practice work, I spent over 20 years working with disadvantaged young people aged 15-21 who had suffered trauma, exclusion and homelessness. I extend my offer of therapy to young people of this age range.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited register membership

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.

Further information

I can offer a free 15 min phone call followed by a first initial session, if you would like, for half the usual fee. This should give us a good idea of how we would work together. Sessions are for 60 mins and I would suggest weekly sessions to begin with, which then can be reduced to fortnightly, but please don't be put off by this idea. We can talk through any arrangements that you feel are more suited to you at this time. I work from a cosy therapy space on Abbeydale Road, S7 where there is free on-street parking and several bus routes.

I have an enhanced DBS check.
