About me
Hi I'm James, a highly-experienced and registered psychotherapist & counsellor offering a friendly, sensitive and professional service to clients of all ages and backgrounds. I have 11 years clinical experience where I have helped my clients to overcome a wide range of problems. My practice is conveniently located in an attractive setting in the heart of Moseley and I am currently able to offer appointments on Tuesdays and Fridays.
What to expect
I find it best to tailor my approach to the individual client but everything begins with my building a supportive relationship with you and coming to understand your difficulties. I understand from experience that these first steps can be difficult and it's my job to make the process easy for you.
I can offer open-ended, exploratory therapy where you will gradually come to understand and accept yourself more fully leading to positive changes in your capacity to live. Alternatively for those looking for more focused work aimed at increasing their here-and-now coping, I can help you to focus carefully on a particular problem, assisting you to use your existing strengths and resources in new ways. You may have your own ideas about what you are likely to find helpful or may want to ask me about the kinds of therapy I offer and I'm happy to work with you to find out what's likely to suit you best.
A good way to find out more about who I am and what I can do for you is to call for a free, no-obligation 30 minute telephone consultation. Since I am frequently at work or with other clients I may not always be able to pick up the phone, but I will always try to return calls as soon as I can. Thanks for taking the time to read this and I hope to hear from you soon. Please note: due to a change in my circumstances I am currently not able to offer open-ended therapy.

school Registered / Accredited
Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

The BABCP is the lead organisation for Cognitive Behavioural Therapy in the UK. Membership is open to anyone with an interest in the practice, theory or development of CBT. BABCP also provides accreditation for CBT therapists. BABCP accredited members adhere to the Standards of Conduct, Performance and Ethics in the Practice of Behavioural and Cognitive Psychotherapies, and are willing to be scrutinised in this adherence as required.

The UK Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP) is a leading professional body for the education, training and regulation of psychotherapists and psychotherapeutic counsellors. Its register is accredited by the government's Professional Standards Authority.
As part of its commitment to protect the public, it works to improve access to psychotherapy, to support and disseminate research, to improve standards and to respond effectively to complaints against its members.
UKCP standards cover the range of different psychotherapies. Registration is obtained by training or accrediting with one of its member organisations, or by holding a European Certificate in Psychotherapy. Accredited by the Professional Standards Authority.

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
