About us
Highgate Counselling Centre (HCC) was established in 1970. We are a registered charity and provide affordable long-term or time-limited psychodynamic counselling to individuals, couples and families.
HCC offers a sliding scale for fees, including low cost counselling for those on a low income. The fee is agreed with you at the initial assessment and is based on your individual circumstances.
Counselling can be offered face-to-face at our offices in Highgate, or online.
All of our counsellors adhere to the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) code of ethics.
Our counsellors speak a number of native languages as their first language. If you have a specific need, please make this known to us.
Training, qualifications & experience

school Registered / Accredited
Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

HCC is very pleased to be able to offer the Tony Gahan Counselling Fund. This provides counselling for those affected by a loved one suffering from dementia.
Dementia can occur in different ways, not just memory loss, and sadly for some it can mean the loss of the person they used to be. This can be distressing for all concerned. This counselling is designed to be a space to think about what this means for people and their relationships who are impacted by a loved one suffering in this way.
The counselling is provided weekly for the duration of up to a year, which can then be reviewed. Fees are based on a sliding scale to ensure counselling is accessible to all.
