About me

Hello, I’m Helen. I set up my practice to offer a space where every client would feel seen, understood and supported, because life can be hard sometimes and so having someone there just for you can often make a huge difference. Maybe you’re at personal or professional cross-roads, family or relationship issues are leaving you stressed out, or you’ve experienced a loss which has knocked you sideways. Whatever is going on for you, Helen White Therapy offers a space where you can slow down, explore your thoughts and emotions, consider your choices and begin to move in the direction that's right for you.

I am always myself in the counselling room and hope that by being open and honest with you, you'll feel able to be the same with me. Working at your pace you are comfortable with, it's for you to decide when you feel emotionally safe and can trust me fully with your story and feelings.

Training, qualifications & experience

I cover a range of issues, including Anxiety, Bereavement, Relationships, Parenting and Loss. Trained in several theories, I'm what's called an integrative counsellor, which means I tailor my approach to best suit your individual needs, supporting you and your unique circumstances.

As well as working in private practice, I volunteer at a Carers charity, supporting the emotional wellbeing of clients as they adjust to their changing future.  This includes parents caring for children with physical disabilities, mental health issues and / or developmental disorders, adults caring for their partner or a parent that has dementia, cancer, MND or other debilitating condition.

I am a registered member of the BACP which means I follow strict ethical guidelines, ensuing every you will receive the best service I can possibly provide.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited register membership

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.

Areas of counselling I deal with

Other areas of counselling I deal with

As well as the issues listed above, I have a lot of experience working with loss. Loss is where something or someone of significance is taken from you. It can leave you questioning your future and your place in it. It can be loss of your health, or that of a loved one, loss of a job, a relationship, a pet, loss of yourself, your confidence, and even your childhood. I'm here to help you navigate your future and support you as you adjust to your new situation.

Further information

While theoretical knowledge is important, I believe it’s the connection that we build that is the engine for lasting change. Having a strong therapeutic relationship creates trust and the emotional safety you'll need to give you the confidence to be vulnerable, ask difficult questions and explore painful emotions. As a starting point for this, I offer a free 15minute session where we can chat and see if we are the right fit for each other.
