About me
Hi there. I'm Heather.
Thanks for stopping to read.
It can be so hard to know who to pick out of all the many faces on the directory. I had the same problem when I looked for my therapist and then my supervisor. How do you decide when many of us look quite similar and offer similar options.
It might feel daunting but we're all here because we want to help. Get in touch with a few people and see who you click with the most. I don't take it personally if clients don't think I'm the right fit for them, and neither do other therapists.
If you would like to have an initial chat about what you're hoping to get from therapy then shoot me an email and we can arrange a call.
I work with adults who come to me with a wide range of challenges, including anxiety, depression, relationship difficulties, life transitions, self-esteem, identity, grief, and trauma. Whether you're feeling overwhelmed, stuck, or simply looking to understand yourself more deeply, therapy can provide a space for reflection, growth, and healing.
My practice is sex-positive and LGBTQIA+ inclusive. I welcome people of all sexual orientations, gender identities, relationship styles, and expressions of sexuality. I recognise that experiences of identity, intimacy, and relationships are deeply personal, and I strive to create an affirming environment where every part of you is welcome. Whether you're exploring your identity, navigating relationships, or looking for support without fear of judgement or assumptions, you will be met with openness, respect, and compassion.
As a person who identifies as neurodivergent, I also welcome and affirm neurodivergent clients. I recognise that everyone's way of experiencing and interacting with the world is unique, and I aim to provide a therapeutic space that is flexible, accepting, and responsive to your individual needs.
Currently, I work solely online. I offer hourly sessions at a schedule that suits you. I don't put a limit on the amount of sessions that you have but always work toward a moment when I'm no longer needed.
I am happy to work with students seeking to meet their required therapeutic hours at a concessionary price. All students should check the criteria required of a therapist from their training institution. Please get in touch to find out more.
When I work online, I work from a private site where we can talk in complete privacy. I will always be open and transparent with you about how I work, and I will always offer a space which is truly yours for one hour.
Please note that emails from me will come indigostonecounselling@gmail.com.
Training, qualifications & experience
Qualifications
- BSc in Psychology and Biology
- Graduate Certificate in Counselling
- MSc in Counselling and Psychotherapy
- Drawing and Talking Therapy
In addition to my private practice, I am also a lecturer at Keele University on the Masters course, both delivering information and supervising students as they undertake their research dissertations. This ensures that I continually taking on new information in the counselling field and continuing my own professional development.
For the past few years, I've worked with a charity in Stoke providing therapy for men and women who have experienced multiple traumas such as sexual and domestic violence.
I've been working deeply with my clients and their stories, listening to things that people thought that they might never share. I've worked as their guide, navigating through uncharted waters; patient and steady when things get rough.
I researched the effects of birth trauma on mothers for my Masters in Psychotherapy. What I found was that many people, mums and dads, are out there who are struggling with their mental health in the ante and post-partum period. It can be a very tough time and I want to help people feel less alone with their feelings.
Member organisations
BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
Accredited register membership
The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
