About me

As a qualified person-centred counsellor, I can offer you the time and space to explore your thoughts, emotions and behaviours free from judgment, with complete compassion and understanding. You will lead the session, deciding what you want to focus on, and I will listen and respond in a way that will help you to understand yourself better, decide what changes you want to make and help you to feel empowered to bring about that change.

I will not pretend to be the expert in your life so at no point will I tell you what to do because only you can really know what is best for you. To begin with this may feel strange but the goal of person-centred therapy is for you to stop listening to what everyone else thinks and begin to trust your own inner voice allowing you to make your own decisions and move forward with confidence.

Alongside my private practice, I work with clients at a women’s charity and provide counselling sessions to women experiencing domestic abuse, trauma, depression, anxiety, bereavement, post-traumatic stress, addiction and issues relating to low self-esteem. If you are experiencing any of these struggles, I can offer you a safe and confidential space for you to talk about what happened/is happening, any challenging emotions or thoughts you might have, the impact the situation is having on other aspects of your life and how you might find a way through to a more peaceful existence.

If local I offer face to face sessions in my therapy room in Denby Dale, (a village not far from Huddersfield, Wakefield and Barnsley areas), as well as online and telephone sessions to clients nationwide. At the moment I have availability on Tuesday evenings, Thursdays and Fridays.

To help you decide if I am the right counsellor for you I offer a free 20 minute telephone session where I can tell you more about what to expect and you can ask me any questions you might have. It’s so important that you feel comfortable with your counsellor, so this phone call is an opportunity for you to get a feel of who I am and how I work. If you are interested in booking your free 20 minute telephone session please get in touch to arrange it.

Training, qualifications & experience

I have completed the Level 4 Diploma in Therapeutic Counselling.

My work with a local women’s charity includes providing counselling to women experiencing a range of issues including bereavement, family relationships, low self-esteem, anxiety, depression, domestic abuse and loss.

Before becoming a counsellor, I worked in education supporting young people and adults with their mental health and wellbeing. This included facilitating a writing for wellbeing group which used writing therapy tools to help participants explore their true self and the self they present to the world, their hopes and fears, and how to develop self-acceptance.

I am also a qualified careers guidance coach with experience of helping people manage change in relation to their employment including overcoming work-related stress and anxiety, redundancy and exploring career change.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited register membership

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
