About me

Hi, I’m Hazel, thanks for looking at my page. I understand that the choice of profiles on here can feel overwhelming so I want to give you a sense of who I am and how I can help. After an unusual and difficult childhood, I often felt anxious, scared and at odds with the world.

As an adult, I came to counselling circuitously after a series of unfulfilling jobs and false starts whilst raising two boys as a single mother. I am friendly, down to earth, a little odd and alternative which helps me to recognise how each of us sees and experiences the world differently.

Although I am trained as an Integrative counsellor, I am naturally Person-Centered; coming from a Humanistic approach which is non-diagnostic, I value each person as an individual without preconception and see every relationship as unique, without judgement. I have a personal interest in neurodiversity, alternative lifestyles and belief systems, and have enjoyed consistently positive outcomes with those who have not had good experiences of therapy in the past.

Sometimes it can be difficult to ask for help, especially when we don't know exactly what it is that we need help with, but I believe that the opportunity to talk openly, to be listened to and truly heard, is a wonderful thing which should be available to everyone.

Through perceptive questioning and compassionate challenge, I will help you to find your clarity, connect the dots and put a voice to what is troubling you.

Training, qualifications & experience

Previously, I have worked with parents of young children, establishing a support group for those experiencing depression, anxiety and isolation. As a Forest School Practitioner in an inner-city primary school, I have used a creative, outdoor, non-directive, person-centred approach to learning, using the principles of Nurture and Mindfulness to provide a creative and holistic environment encouraging growth and change.

Most recently, I have worked with vulnerable adults on a range of issues including bereavement, identity, sexual abuse, trauma and life-threatening illness within a context of deprivation, debt and homelessness.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
