About me

Welcome to my profile and thank you for taking the time to read through what I hope, will be the start of your therapeutic journey.

Realising that you need support is not always a straightforward process and you may have been thinking about this for a while. This first step of considering therapeutic counselling is, I appreciate a hard one, so I am not going to bamboozle you with long texts and fancy wordplay, instead, will express what I feel I can offer to support you.

Let me tell you a little about myself, my training and my experience.

I am proud and privileged to currently be working within the NHS as a Person-Centred Experiential, Counselling for Depression, High Intensity Psychotherapeutic Counsellor, working alongside adults who are currently seeking support for a wide range of issues. I took a brief hiatus from private practice in 2021 due to the rising need for mental health support within our national health service, recognising how changes we have all experienced during the last few years have for some, greatly affected mental health and well-being. I am so pleased to now be offering therapy sessions once more through my private practice New Day Counselling and am looking forward to be able to offer support plans which are specifically tailored to meet your individual needs.

I strongly believe in continuous professional development, some even call me a 'forever student', I take pride in this, as my development helps me bring more knowledge into the therapy room to support the growth of the clients I work with. I qualified as an Integrative Counsellor through four years of initial training and this led to further later development in both psychology and the science of the mind, ending with a FDA in Counselling with focus on the Biopsychosocial Model. Having this broad understanding of various counselling theories and methodologies as well as an understanding of the mind, brain, body connection, allows me to support your understanding of 'self' in a truly holistic way,  because as the great Carl Rogers says:

' The curious paradox is when I accept myself just as I am, then I can change'

I have had the immense privilege to work within agencies and charities that specialise in many areas of support, including Domestic Abuse/Violence, families and young people, Interpersonal Family Relational Dynamics, working with those preparing to return to work and individuals that live with long term conditions which can create barriers such as CFS/ME and Fibromyalgia.

So how does it work?

The aim of the therapy is to allow you to gain back control of your life, which you may feel is currently lost, whether that be through confidence building, decision making or processing unresolved issues. This is done by allowing you to explore your thoughts and feelings in a safe and non-judgemental environment without fear of rejection or repercussion.

Counselling is a confidential service and as an accreditated member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP), I ensure that I work within the parameters of their ethical framework, this allows the work to remain safe and ensures your well-being is paramount. There are some exceptions to the rule in regards to confidentiality but this will be fully explained at your initial assessment.

The working relationship is key to a successful counselling experience, so for this reason I offer a free, no-obligation telephone welcome chat just for you to get an idea of how comfortable you feel with me. Should you wish to go ahead, together we would arrange an initial assessment and it is here we can establish your wants and needs, your expectations of therapy, discuss the types of therapy that may best support you and answer any questions you may have. Should you then feel you would like to continue onto counselling sessions, you can decide what kind of counselling you would prefer, face to face or remote sessions and how often you would like to attend, weekly, fortnightly or even monthly. It is recommended that initially, weekly sessions are more beneficial and this can help us establish together that you feel comfortable working with me and I feel I am the right person to support you moving forward, remember, counselling should only be in the interests of you!

I hope you have gained the information to help you decide the right option for you, however, if you are still left with any questions then please do not hesitate to get intouch.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
