About me

Gestalt Therapist | In-Person & Online Sessions | Inclusive, Trauma-Informed Practice

Hello and welcome. My name is Gina Mahoney, and I am a Gestalt therapist offering both in-person and online therapy sessions. For both short and long term therapy.

My Approach

Gestalt therapy focuses on the here and now—not ignoring the past, but exploring how it continues to affect your present experience. Whether you're feeling stuck, facing a crossroads, or seeking deeper meaning, we can work together to explore your options and empower you to create the change you want.

I take a creative and collaborative approach to therapy, helping you build greater self-awareness and discover more fulfilling ways of engaging with the world. I offer a confidential, supportive space where you can explore your thoughts and feelings at your own pace, in a way that feels right for you.

As a white woman of working-class origin, I work with an awareness of systemic oppression and the impact this can have on our sense of self and safety. My aim is to foster trust and mutual respect in our therapeutic relationship, recognising the unique ways you experience the world.

Trauma-Informed and Embodied Practice

I work in a trauma-informed way, with sensitivity to how emotional experiences are stored and expressed in the body. Everyone processes trauma and stress differently, and I aim to support your own individual experience with compassion and care.

I’m inspired by the words of psychotherapist Dave Mann:

“The world may be made of atoms but it is held together with stories. These stories are held in our bodies as an embodied sense of who we are, our sense of self-worth, what we believe we can and cannot achieve.”

By sharing your story, we can explore how you relate to yourself, others, and to me—and how I can support you in realising your full potential.

Training, qualifications & experience

Gestalt Centre Diploma in Counselling (PGdip)
Gestalt Centre Certificate in Counselling

Before becoming a therapist, I spent 25 years producing factual entertainment television. I understand the pressures and complexities of high-stress work environments. I trained at London’s Gestalt Centre and have worked with clients at Mind, the mental health charity.

For the past three years, I’ve been working with Contact, a charity supporting families of children with complex physical and/or neurological needs. Both professionally and personally, I have a deep understanding of the joys, responsibilities, and challenges that come with supporting a family member with additional needs.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited register membership

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
