About me

What is happening to you? What has happened to you?

Two very interlinked questions often not easy to answer and all too often the question you  ask yourself or worse someone else asks is “ What is wrong with you?”

I am an Integrative Counsellor with a person centred approach and additional specialist training in the use of arts in therapy and yoga based therapy for trauma and chronic stress. I work with young people, from the beginning of their senior school years to twenty five years of age dealing with a wide range of challenges including GAD, anxiety, panic attacks, abuse, family issues, as well as low self esteem, confidence and the impacts of Neurodiversity inc Autism and ADHD. I also work with parents and those supporting young people.

As well as working with private clients I continue to work in Senior Schools with diverse populations. As the people I work with sometimes also have SEN requirements as well as experiencing mental health challenges understanding different ways of processing and feeling comfortable in the sessions is important too.

Whilst sessions can sometimes consist just of talking, I offer art tools and yoga ( somatic) interventions in line with the needs of the client. Art tools can assist the client to bring and explore their feelings when they are hard to access or to talk directly about. Yoga based interventions, that is breath work, somatic awareness, movement and mindfulness are offered to regulate a dysregulated nervous system and support wellbeing.

In my work, the relationship with the young person or adult is of paramount importance in allowing space to find authenticity and express whatever is being experienced in the safety of feeling it is heard without judgement.

Sessions are always guided by what the client needs and finding the right pace and interventions for you.

I work to hear, listen, be curious, understand, truly empathise with and validate whatever is happening for the person I am working with. This is the foundation for allowing the client to feel emotionally safe and able to explore and process their experience.

First sessions are about getting to know each other and building a relationship in which you feel safe to talk and bring your experience. Sometimes though it is hard to talk, hard to find the right words, or just too much to say out loud. Being offered tools which assist in the exploration of what is happening or has happened for you can make accessing therapy a gentler but deeper experience.

Somatic interventions which calm the nervous system can assist and support you during the journey or can be the support you need during periods of stress.

The importance of having the right therapist to work with for you is paramount, so wherever possible a free phone call is offered ahead of a booking.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
