About me
Hello, I’m Gary.
At times, we can find ourselves struggling with difficult thoughts, feelings, or life circumstances. You may be feeling anxious, low in mood, overwhelmed, or questioning why certain patterns keep repeating in your life. Counselling can provide an opportunity to slow down, reflect, and make sense of what you are experiencing.
I offer a warm, confidential, and non-judgemental environment where you can speak openly about whatever is on your mind. Together, we can explore the challenges you are facing and work towards a deeper understanding of yourself and what you are going through. This can create space for new perspectives, choices, and ways of moving forward.
I offer face-to-face counselling in Aberdeen and online sessions throughout the UK.
Training, qualifications & experience
Alongside my private practice, I work as a counsellor based within a GP practice and community setting in Aberdeen. In these roles, I support adults experiencing a wide range of emotional and psychological difficulties.
I am a registered member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and hold a Postgraduate Diploma in Person-Centred Counselling, a BSc (Hons) in Psychology, and a COSCA Certificate in Counselling Skills.
I am committed to ongoing professional development and am currently undertaking a Certificate in Psychodynamic and Jungian Theory for Qualified Practitioners through the British Psychotherapy Foundation
Member organisations
BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
Accredited register membership
The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.

Further information
Finding the right counsellor is important, and I recognise that reaching out for support is not always easy. For this reason, I offer a free 15-minute introductory telephone call where we can discuss what has brought you to counselling and whether working together feels like a good fit.
You do not need to have everything figured out before coming to counselling. Some people arrive with a clear idea of what they would like to talk about, while others are unsure where to begin. Wherever you find yourself, we can start from there.
I offer counselling from a private therapy room in Aberdeen's West End. Appointments are currently available on Mondays and selected weekday evenings
