Gary Bishop UKCP reg. Psychotherapist. MSc, PG Dip, CTA (MBACP)
About me
I am an experienced UKCP and BACP registered psychotherapist, working with personal issues such as anxiety and depression, bereavement, self-harm and suicidal feelings, relationship issues, panic attacks, low self esteem and anger.
I also work with couples who are experiencing difficulties in their relationships, providing a safe space where difficult thoughts and feelings can be talked about and explored. This can lead to a greater understanding of what might be impeding upon intimacy in your relationship, giving you the opportunity to make positive change for a more fulfilling way of being.
I am an AXA PPP Healthcare registered practitioner. I also work with clients with complex needs in the NHS and charity settings. I work with individuals, couples and groups, offering short and long term counselling, tailored to your specific needs.
During our first session we will discuss what has brought you into counselling and what your expectations are. I will talk to you about how I work and together we can decide if the relationship is suitable. In my experience the relationship between client and counsellor is key to building an environment of trust for us to be able to explore the difficulties you are experiencing.
I see self-awareness as a key factor in gaining psychological health. I offer a non-judgemental space where we will work together, pausing and reflecting to discover and understand more deeply your historical patterns, and how they might be influencing your everyday life.
My approach is flexible, integrating psychodynamic thinking with the humanistic philosophy of Transactional Analysis. Gaining new perspectives on your difficulties will allow you to begin to express more fully your thoughts and emotions, which may have been suppressed for a long time.

Member organisations

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
BACP is one of the UK’s largest professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy. Therapists registered with the Association fall into a number of different membership categories such as Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP and Registered Member MBACP (Accred), each standing for different levels of training and experience. MBACP (Accred) and MBACP (Snr Accred) members have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by the Association.
Registered members can be found on the BACP Register, which was the first register to achieve Accredited Voluntary Register status issued by the Professional Standards Authority. Individual Members will have completed an appropriate counselling and/or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but will not appear on the BACP Register until they've progressed to Registered Member MBACP status.
All members are bound by a Code of Ethics & Practice and a Complaints Procedure. Accredited by the Professional Standards Authority.
Accredited register membership

Accredited Register Scheme
The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
