About me

Hi, I'm Fi! Welcome to Perfectly Human Counselling.

I believe in the power of person-centred therapy, which means I put you at the heart of our work together. Whilst this is my main approach, I also draw on in insights from Psychodynamic Theory, Attachment Theory, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), and Transactional Analysis. This blend allows me to see you through various lenses, enhancing my ability to support your unique journey.

Person-centred therapy is all about creating a warm, supportive environment where you feel valued and understood. By offering unconditional positive regard and practising empathy, I aim to empower you to find your own solutions and foster personal growth and healing.

Our counselling sessions are 50 minutes long, held once a week, and are open-ended. This means the length of our work together varies depending on your needs and the issues we're addressing. During each session, it's just you and me in the room. We'll use a non-directive approach, working at your pace and letting you lead the conversation. Together, we'll explore your thoughts and emotions freely, uncovering themes in your history, patterns of behaviour, and whatever else may emerge.

Training, qualifications & experience

I completed my counselling qualifications with the Counselling and Psychotherapy Central Awarding Body (CPCAB), the UK's leading awarding organisation specialising in counselling. My qualifications are recognised by the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP), and I'm proud to be a Registered Member.

As a member of BACP, I adhere to their ethical framework to ensure the highest standards in my practice.

My CPCAB qualifications include:

  • Level 2 Certificate in Counselling Skills
  • Level 3 Certificate in Counselling Studies
  • Level 4 Diploma in Therapeutic Counselling

Additionally, I hold a BSc (Hons) Psychology Degree from the University of Plymouth (2.1), and I'm currently studying ‘Online Counselling: Getting Started’ with Open University.

My experience includes:

  • Volunteer work with the Guernsey Counselling Service (GCS) since 2023
  • Mentoring within the Youth Commission for Guernsey and Alderney
  • Serving on the Child Youth and Community Tribunal (CYCT)

Before transitioning into counselling, I spent 14 years in HR management within the finance industry in Guernsey. I balanced my studies part-time whilst working, and after two years of volunteering as a counsellor with GCS, I decided to fully pursue my passion for helping others navigate their emotional and mental challenges.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
