About me

Why Counselling?

Life throws some hard knocks and it sometimes is difficult to cope manifesting itself into depression, trauma, anxiety, poor relationships, low self-esteem, or general unhappiness. We rarely have the opportunity to stand back and focus on ourselves and tend to repeat learned patterns of behaviour and absorb the values of others rather than trusting in our own ability to decide what is important. This is where I can help you by offering a safe and non-judgemental environment where you are the primary focus. We will collaboratively look at what is causing your difficulties, stand back to see the wood from the trees and zoom into the detail as it really is. The key to effective therapy is the quality of the relationship and this can often be assessed during our initial meeting together.

Training, qualifications & experience

I am a registered member of the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP), the UK's leading professional body for counselling. I am also a Member of the Cambridge Counselling Service, the largest private counselling service in Cambridge. I am experienced in dealing with clients  presenting a wide range of issues and from all age and backgrounds in my private practice in Cambridge and Stonely. My previous experience includes helping those recovering from trauma and bereavement from road collisions with the Road Victims Trust, to inmates at HMP prison (that was personally life changing), to young students at a local secondary school. I have an Ed Excel Level 5 in Therapeutic Counselling Diploma, a Certificate in Counselling Studies, Level 2 and 3 and a BA (Hons) degree in Public Administration and Law.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
