About me
Taking the first step towards counselling can feel daunting, particularly when you’re not sure what to expect or whether you’ve found the right person. My aim is to make that first step as comfortable as possible by offering a safe, welcoming and confidential space where you can feel heard, understood and accepted without judgement.
I’m Emma, an integrative counsellor based in Rayleigh, Essex, offering face-to-face and online counselling to adults and young people. I have experience supporting people through a wide range of challenges, including anxiety and stress, low mood and depression, low self-esteem, relationship difficulties, separation and life transitions, grief and loss, childhood experiences and trauma, emotional regulation, neurodiversity, and coping with illness or significant change.
I believe that there is no single approach that works for everyone. As an integrative counsellor, I draw on Person-Centred, Humanistic, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Psychodynamic and Transactional Analysis approaches, tailoring our work to your individual needs and circumstances. You don’t need to know which approach is right for you – that’s something we can explore together.
How I work
I believe that a trusting therapeutic relationship is at the heart of effective counselling. From our first conversation, I will listen with empathy and seek to understand your experiences from your perspective. There is no pressure to share anything before you feel ready, and we can work at a pace that feels comfortable for you.
I genuinely enjoy getting to know people and feel privileged to support clients through their personal journeys. My role is not to judge or tell you what to do, but to walk alongside you as you explore what is happening for you, develop greater self-awareness and find ways of moving forward that feel right for you.
Alongside my counselling qualifications, I am also a Level 5 qualified Life Coach through IAPC&M. Although my practice is focused on counselling, I may draw on elements of my coaching training where appropriate, particularly around confidence, self-awareness, personal development and working towards positive change.
Training, qualifications & experience
Alongside my private practice, I work as a school counsellor in a local secondary school, supporting students and staff. I also provide counselling through services in Rayleigh and Southend-on-Sea and deliver workshops for parents and teenagers focusing on areas such as anxiety, anger, emotional regulation and wellbeing.
I also offer emotional wellbeing sessions for children and young people aged 8–16, providing support around emotional awareness, resilience and developing healthy coping strategies.
I hold a BSc (Hons) in Psychology, Certificate in Counselling Skills, Level 4 Diploma in Therapeutic Counselling and Level 5 Practitioners Diploma in CBT. I am a registered member of the National Counselling and Psychotherapy Society (NCPS), have an enhanced DBS, and undertake ongoing CPD training.
