About me
Hello! My name is Emily and I'm a Chartered Clinical Psychologist. My specialism is working with children, young people and families as well as adults, and I'm director of a service called Otter Psychology.
If you're looking to start therapy it can be a daunting task. Whether it's your first experience or your tenth my aim is always to make sure you feel as safe and informed as possible. You might be looking for yourself, your child or your family and I hope I will be able to help whatever you are going through. I work in a flexible and creative way and it's really important to me that you feel heard.
Working with Children and Families
Families come to me with a broad range of difficulties. It can be so hard to find the right kind of help that your family needs. There are so many challenges that we face and sometimes family life can bring its own stress. Children don't always have the words to explain what they're feeling, but they often show us through their behaviour, emotions, and relationships. Whether you are the parent of a young child or a teenager it can sometimes feel so confusing, upsetting and frustrating as parents to see that your child is struggling and to not know what is wrong or how to help. I provide a safe, supportive space where children and young people can express themselves, make sense of difficult experiences, develop confidence in managing life's challenges and help you feel more connected as a family. Whether your child is struggling with anxiety, anger, low mood, friendships, self-esteem, school-related difficulties, or the impact of change and loss, I work collaboratively with both children and their families to help them feel understood, supported, and able to thrive. If you relate to any of the above please know you are not alone.
Parenting itself can come with so many situations which feel tough and overwhelming and you might not know who to talk to about this. Many parents I work with can find it so helpful to have a space for themselves which is safe and non-judgemental to speak about their feelings and explore things they can do to help. Perhaps this is by finding new ways to connect with your child, exploring how to understand them more, speaking about the experiences of parenting, or just feeling you have the time and space to reflect amidst busy family life.
Working with Adults
Life can sometimes feel overwhelming, leaving us feeling stuck, anxious, low, or disconnected from ourselves and others. I offer a warm, non-judgemental space where you can talk openly at your own pace about whatever is troubling you. Together, we can explore the challenges you are facing, gain a deeper understanding of patterns that may be holding you back, and find ways to move forward with self-compassion. Whether you are experiencing anxiety, depression, relationship difficulties, stress, loss, or life transitions, you don't have to navigate it alone. Please do get in touch and we can explore how I can help.
I can offer a broad range of therapeutic options to help support individuals in the best way possible and this is something we can explore together.
I am currently available to offer face to face or online appointments.
