About me

I work with people who want to feel empowered, regain a sense of self and take back control of how they live their lives. Often we can find ourselves feeling lost or stuck, trying to fit the expectations of others, and losing track of what we see for ourselves. We get caught up in patterns from the past, repeating relationship dynamics and self-sabotaging in order to feel comfortable, even when that ultimately prevents us from getting to where we want to be.

I explore how we adapt to our circumstances in order to survive challenges and trauma, and how we can shed the strategies that no longer serve a purpose, and integrate new, more authentic ways of being that align with what we want and need.

My core values as a counsellor and my approach are:

Authenticity - It is really important to me that I show up as a real human being with my clients. I find that if we can relate on a human level, there is more transparency and room to explore the things that have brought you to the process.

Curiosity - I am actively curious about the people I work with; where they come from, what they value, who they are at their core, what happens between us in the therapeutic space. Curiosity and non-judgement go hand-in-hand, and it often helps the people I work with become curious about themselves, in turn letting go of self-judgement and shame.

Creativity and Adaptability - I work in a variety of ways. It could involve art, writing, music, dreams, movement, colour... the list goes on. Simply talking about the thing doesn't work for everyone, just as creative work isn't everyone's cup of tea. That's why I do both. I integrate some Pluralistic techniques to get an idea of what your preferences for counselling are, and we go from there. Counselling is a collaboration.

Inclusivity - All of the above lead into anti-oppressive practice and inclusivity. I've worked with people from diverse backgrounds, ages, cultures, neurodiversity (particularly ASD and ADHD) and LGBTQIA+.

I have experience working with depression, anxiety, stress, motivation, self-esteem and confidence, family issues, loss and bereavement, sexual identity, gender identity, and working with student counsellors. More recently, I have moved into working with attachment, relationships, intimacy and sex.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited register membership

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
