About me

Hi, my name is Ellen and I offer face-to-face and online counselling from my small private practice in North Yorkshire.

I am a warm and compassionate person and offer a supportive, calm and non judgemental space to explore the difficulties and concerns you may be experiencing.

My approach is humanistic and I adopt a holistic outlook, focusing on the whole of your experiences. I value that every person is unique with differing life experiences, so your needs and preferences will be as individual as you.

I believe the relationship between the client and their chosen therapist is paramount to the process. I strive to offer a warm and collaborative therapeutic relationship and through the trust we build together, we can explore things at a pace and depth that is comfortable for you, as we begin to create a safe relationship for you to feel heard and listened to.

My aim is to help you find your own way of understanding your thoughts, feelings, and perspectives in the hope this will help you make sense of yourself and your experiences and this may encourage self-awareness, self-confidence, and empower your life choices.

I have experience of supporting people with a wide range of issues including anxiety, depression, relationship issues, health issues, anger, stress, self-esteem, bereavement, loss, life transitions, identity, cultural issues, abuse and trauma.

I can offer long and short-term therapy, so we can discuss and consider which approach might be most suitable for you.

If you would to find out a little more about me and how I work, or a chat about what you are experiencing, please get in touch.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.

Additional information

I offer a free 20-30 minute introduction session which provides an opportunity to get an idea of what you're looking for from counselling, and for you to ask questions to decide if you would like to work with me, before you commit to booking any sessions.

There is no obligation to sign up to work with me, reaching out for therapy may be a daunting process and invite you to take care in choosing your therapist.

If you ring and I am not available please leave a voicemail or message with your name and telephone number and I will get back to you as soon as I can.

Please let me know if it is okay to leave a message as I recognise there are times when you may not wish for others to know you are considering counselling.
