Journey to Tranquility BA MA MBACP MNCPS

About me

Life can feel overwhelming at times — whether through grief, loss, change, or simply the weight of day-to-day challenges. I offer a safe, compassionate space where you can share your thoughts and feelings openly, without judgement. My own journey with counselling showed me how powerful it can be to feel truly heard and understood, and this inspired me to train as a counsellor and psychotherapist so that I could offer the same support. I am an Integrated Therapist with a Masters in Counselling and Psychotherapy.

Specialisms

I specialise in bereavement, pre-bereavement, and loss — including work with children and young people in hospice settings. I also have extensive experience supporting people who are neurodivergent, from diverse backgrounds, and from different faiths, identities, disabilities, cultures. and trauma-informed approaches to loss and major incident response. My practice is inclusive, affirming, and shaped around your unique needs. I also have significant experience working in groups and one-to-one with ME, chronic fatigue and fibromyalgia. I have also got vast experience working with attachment theory and skills. I am also a couples therapist and family therapist. I am also a clinical supervisor.

Practicalities

I offer counselling,  psychotherapy  and Clinical supervision online and face to face. Sessions are confidential and tailored to you, providing a space to explore whatever is on your mind, at your own pace.

I offer short and long term counselling. My aim is to help identity patterns of behaviour which may no longer serve you, and help you relate better to yourself and the world around you.

Experience

My professional background spans teaching in adult education, special educational needs (as a communication assistant), and a child protection officer within North Somerset Council and CYP child protection lead in a hospice centre. I am also a Makaton Regional Tutor, bringing expertise in communication and accessibility into my therapeutic work. Currently, I practice as a CYP Bereavement Counselling Specialist within a local hospice setting, offering both pre-bereavement and bereavement support. I also mentor and supervise students including PHd counselling students, play therapy students and music therapy students. I also manage and supervise the companion service. I also deliver training in all areas of bereavement and pre-bereavement within the hospice setting..

How I work

I use an integrative approach, which means I draw on different therapeutic models to suit your individual needs. Together, we may explore your past experiences, present challenges, and hopes for the future, while I offer a safe and trusting space for you to discover your own way forward. I work with both adults and children/young people, creating a supportive environment where every aspect of who you are is respected and valued.

Whilst using this approach I incorporate the following:

Transactional Analysis, a psychoanalytic theory and therapy method that analyses social interactions to understand behaviour by examining the ego states of the Parent, Adult and Child Ego states. Also exploring Life Scripts and how they can affect behaviours, but also possibilities of changing Life Scripts.

Psychodynamic Therapy a theory that explores the unconscious mind and past experiences to understand current behaviours and feelings, aiming for self-awareness and emotional growth. Helping clients have a deeper understanding of what is happening to them and why.

Person Centred Therapy a theory which emphasises on the client's perspective and self-directed growth through a supportive and empathetic relationship, remaining Congruent, Empathetic,  and having Unconditional Positive Regard. This theory also remains client centred.

Gestalt a Humanistic theory of Psychotherapy that emphasises personal responsibility and focuses in the present moment, encouraging self-awareness and understanding of one's thoughts, feelings and behaviours. Also looking at different body languages during exploration through our work.

Transpersonal Approach emphasising the spiritual and transcendent aspects of human experience, aiming to foster wholeness and self-actualisation beyond the limitations of the ego, and humanistic prospectives emphasising inherent human goodness, free will, and the potential for growth and self-actualisation, focusing on the individual's subjective experience and striving for meaning and purpose.

I also incorporate Somatic therapy using a body-centred form of psychotherapy exploring chronic stress, trauma and difficult emotions that are stored in physical sensations within the nervous systems.

Couples therapy providing a safe and supportive space to help explore roots of disconnection. I remain non-judgemental and do not point a finger or blame.

Family therapy helping those in close relationships improve how they communicate, solve conflicts and support each other. Looking at the whole family system. Building on shared strengths and deep seated issues.

I remain congruent, authentic and genuine with my clients. This helps build a good therapeutic relationship. Helping the client become their true self, helping to build trust within our work and creating a safe space.

I use unconditional positive regard and acceptance. This means that I genuinely care about my clients and I do not judge or evaluate their thoughts and feelings or good or bad behaviours. Each client is valued and accepted for who they are.

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
