About me

I OFFER A FREE 50 MINUTES INITIAL SESSION TO SEE HOW WE CAN WORK TOGETHER.

Perhaps you need a quiet, peaceful place to talk around your concerns, and plan a way forward?

Sometimes its difficult to see what's going wrong with your life, and at other times its very obvious. I aim to encourage and support you to be inquisitive about your life, rather than judgemental; Together we can search for a way forward. We will have a series of conversations around what troubles you, in order to clarify your concerns, and move forward.

I trained as in Integrative Counsellor/Therapist at the University of Leeds, and qualified in 2007. Since then I have gained experience working in many different settings. I am a fully accredited, insured and registered member of The British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy.  A number of years ago I gained BACP accreditation which is a quality assured status achieved by experienced practitioners who have demonstrated to BACP a high level of competency, standards and ethical practice.

MY PERSONAL PHILOSOPHY OF COUNSELLING

Problems arise for most people at some point in their lives. A crisis may suddenly happen, or sometimes you struggle along for years, coping with difficult feelings. A wide range of concerns bring people to seek counselling, I offer a safe place to explore how problems have arisen, how they have affected you and how you move on from the psychological  distress.

In our initial meeting, we will discuss together what has brought you to seek counselling along with your best hopes and fears around the process. Choosing a therapeutic counsellor with whom you feel comfortable and confident is essential for an effective working alliance. It is important to remember that you are always in control regarding the amount/extent of counselling you require. We regularly review our work together in order to monitor its usefulness.

Registered / Accredited

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
