About me

Choosing the right counsellor /psychotherapist is so important so here is a bit about me, my skill set and experience.

I offer individual Psychodynamic Psychotherapy/ Counselling to adults.

I am also experienced in the following therapeutic interventions.

  • CBT. Cognitive behaviour therapy
  • DBT. Dialectical behaviour therapy
  • Meditation
  • Mindfulness

I am a Contemporary Psychodynamic Counsellor and Psychotherapist. I work from home in my garden office. During my career I have benefited from working within NHS mental health services, adult social care, youth-work, learning disability sector. I offer both long and short term therapy. I receive regular supervision in line with BACP ethical guidelines. I adhere to the BACP ethical framework and my continuing professional development keeps me updated and aware of changes and current thinking within the field of psychotherapy and counselling. When working with clients I use a range of therapeutic interventions enabling clients to normalize and make sense of their relational experiences and emotional responses. Relaxation, meditations and compassion based work can be integrated into the psychodynamic therapy. This can be beneficial and empowering, particularly at a time we may be feeling lost, sad, or out of control of our lives. People seek counselling/ therapy for all sorts of reasons and it's important that you feel comfortable to work with me. So an initial meeting is arranged where we can discuss what the issues are for you and your expectations of the therapy. It's important to ensure we are a good match in terms of your feeling comfortable to talk to me and my feeling I am able to support you professionally. We can then arrange a day and time that is suitable for you. The sessions are reviewed regularly to ensure we are satisfied with the work. Do please feel free to ask any other questions you may have and best wishes in your search.

Training, qualifications & experience

I am a fully qualified member of  British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy and a member of their accredited register. I was an experienced mental health professional for 8 years prior to this. I trained at the University of Leicester and gained a distinction in Contemporary Psychodynamic counselling in 2011. I was an associate  psychotherapist within Northamptonshire Healthcare NHS foundation trust, working with people experiencing serious and enduring mental health disorders. I was principal social worker in mental health and  delivered mental health training to professionals within the NHS and Northamptonshire County Council social care settings. I was an approved mental health professional, AMHP, and fully registered member of HCPC, 'Health and care professions council'. I have worked within the NHS CRISIS team and I trained and worked with 'CRUSE' a  leading bereavement counselling service. During my career I have worked with people experiencing low mood, self harm, eating disorder, personality difficulties, anger issues and many more. I now offer individual counselling from my office at home. I sincerely believe in the benefits of talking therapies and believe people can, with the right support overcome significant barriers and move forward with their lives.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited register membership

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
