About me

Welcome, my name is Debbie.

Being a person-centred therapist at my core, with a passion for growth and development, I take a collaborative approach to my client work. After all, you are the expert on yourself; I'm there to support and sit beside you as we navigate your experiences of this world.

The heart of my practice is grounded in empathy, genuineness, non-judgmentalism, and creativity. I aim to provide a space for my clients where they will feel welcomed, safe, and able to bring their whole identity into the session, which in turn will cultivate the conditions required for a trusting therapeutic alliance. A place to explore the gift of self-nurturing, healing, and ultimately, thriving.

I am trauma-informed, neurodiversity-affirming, and view my work through an intersectional feminist lens. I work with a culturally diverse client base, LGBTQ+ community, and strive to build an anti-discriminatory and anti-oppressive way of being.

My own self-care is also priority. I work with my own therapist, engage in peer support, and attend monthly clinical supervision in line with BACP guidelines. This helps me to be the best I can be for my clients.

Out of working hours, I have a few special interests: mid-century art & design, architecture, music, and yoga. I am a very willing companion to my feline friend who (full disclosure) may make an appearance during our online sessions together. I welcome your pets into our sessions, please ask about bringing them along to in-person sessions.

For affordable in person sessions, I am available online, and for face to face sessions in Edinburgh.

Training, qualifications & experience

I hold a Post Graduate Diploma in Psychological Well-being, Counselling, and Psychotherapy, from Aberdeen University. However, my practice has evolved and diversified over the past six years. I work in a collaborative way, travelling alongside my clients on their journey. Over the past years, I have concentrated on trauma-informed practice and neurodiversity-affirming practice, particularly working therapeutically with Autistic adults. I am happy to share a list of my CPD and certificates are available to view upon request. I also have accrued over 1000 hours of client work, and will be starting the accreditation process in 2026.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited register membership

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
